Loretta Maedell Sheek

Loretta Maedell Sheek, one of eleven children of the late Julius Lucius Funk and Grace Buelah (Hard) Funk, was born April 18, 1932, in Eastland, Texas. As a young girl, Loretta grew up in Hico, Texas where she attended and graduated from high school. Loretta began working at an early age and started her working years at the Leveland Drug Store in Leveland, Texas. She then worked as a telephone operator in Leveland. Loretta met a young man by the name of Wayne Clark Sheek, and they were united in marriage on June 30, 1958, in Leveland. They continued to reside there, and were blessed with five children: Mike, Joe, Grady, Royce, and Clark. While still in Leveland, Loretta and Wayne owned a café, while she worked in a dental office (Robertson Dental). They moved to Eldridge, Missouri and Loretta worked at H.D. Lee Factory in Lebanon, Missouri for a short time before becoming employed at the Bell Telephone office in Camdenton and at Tan-Tar-A Resort as a switch board operator. She then went to work at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri as a dental assistant until her retirement in 1992 after 25 years of faithful service. In her spare time, Loretta enjoyed doing embroidery work and piecing quilts together. She was an avid reader and loved to read Westerns. She liked to play a lot of games, whether it was cards, dominos, checkers, or any other board game. Loretta had made a profession of faith and was a member of the Church of Christ in St. Robert, Missouri for many years. Loretta went home to be with her Lord Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center of Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 91 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Loretta leaves to cherish her memory, two children: Clark Sheek (Mary) of Dixon, MO and Royce Sheek (Johnna) of Boling, TX; six grandchildren: Ashley Sheek of Hardinsburg, KY, C.J. Sheek (Josie) of Dixon, MO, Nicholas Sheek of Austin, TX, Cassidy Sheek of Austin, TX, Mike Sheek (Jennifer) of Alamogordo, NM, and Christina Rogers (Chad) of Laquey, MO; six great grandchildren: Brian McKee (Kylee), Jaeden Rogers, Veronica Rogers, Abby Rogers, Sula Sheek, and Arizona Sheek; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Loretta was preceded in death by her husband: Wayne Sheek; three sons: Harold Joe Presley, Michael Julius Sheek, and James “Grady” Sheek; five sisters: Maude Watley, Marvin Henderson, Berniece Tankersley, Ollie Prophet, and Zonell Simpson; and five brothers: Bud, Pete, Joe Clifford, Lloyd, and Stub Funk. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Burial will follow in the Ira Cemetery of Eldridge, MO. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 12, 2024, in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Loretta Sheek and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
