Orpha Lea Wood

Orpha Lea Wood, 88, departed this life Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, MO. She was born to the late Elmer and Zora Carroll, September 21, 1926 in Big Piney, MO. On April 25, 1975, she was united in marriage to Ewell Wood and two families came together. The couple spent 39 years of love and wonderful memories together. Orpha enjoyed being a homemaker, working in the garden, tending to her flowers, trying new recipes and a good game of Pitch. She especially enjoyed vacations and cruises with Ewell and time spent with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers: Chester Carroll, Lester Carroll, Lloyd Carroll and Herschel Carroll; a son, Larry Good and a sister, Ozelma Spratley-Jasper. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Ewell Wood, Springfield, MO; four children, Paulette Spitler (Bill), Big Piney, MO; Leona Pruett, Rolla, MO; Jim Good (Barbara), Versailles, MO and Allen Good (Renae), Florissant, MO; three step-children, Fred Wood (Becky), Laquey, MO; Brenda Daugherty (Gerry), Springfield, MO and Scott Wood (Erica), Worthington, MO; 12 grandchildren, Scott Spitler, Twyla Luko, Gerry Pruett, Jr, Tina Lasure, Alicesha Patten, Keith Good, Terisha Good, Dennis Good, Tracy Good, Matthew Wood, Erin Baker and Charlene Squires; 33 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; cousins Agnes Cole, Springfield, MO and Roy Vaughn, Junction City, KS. Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Cecil Barham officiating and Loy Aikman reading the obituary and recalling his wonderful memories of Orpha. Soloist Becky Lercher sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace". Serving as escorts were Darrick Luko, A.J. Rowe, Scott Spitler, Matthew Wood, Mike Wood, Scott Wood, Terry Wood and Corbin Wood. Serving as honorary escorts were Fred Wood, Gerry Daugherty, Jim Snipes, Bill Tryan, Dr. Stephen Christiansen, Dave Brown, Charles Wood, Bill Spitler, Earl Wood and Bob Jackson. Burial followed in the Hopewell Cemetery of Big Piney, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in memory of Orpha Wood to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital of St. Louis and may be left at the funeral home.
