Shirley Ann Stewart

Shirley Ann Stewart, daughter of the late Dorsey and Thelma Irene (Jones) Alexander, was born January 1, 1937 in Stoutland, Missouri. As a young girl, Shirley and her siblings were taken in by their grandparents and were raised by them. It was during this time that they attended Sunday School and Shirley was baptized. On September 9, 1999, Shirley was united in marriage to Jack Stewart in Richland, Missouri. They shared over nine years of marriage together and many wonderful memories. They enjoyed going to Booneville, Missouri and Miami, Oklahoma to the casinos and playing especially the slot machines. Shirley was a hard worker. She worked for several years at the Cost Cutter Variety Store in Richland, but the majority of her working years she was employed with JC Penny in the Snap On Tools department as a sales clerk. Besides going to the casinos with Jack, Shirley enjoyed reading novels, watching the birds and feeding the hummingbirds. Her biggest enjoyment was to cook and spend time with her family, so she would have about 10-15 people at her house every weekend for dinner and she would cook a big meal. The family knew that at every get-together Shirley would bring her famous chicken and rice casserole. Shirley passed away at 1:40 P.M. Thursday, September 3, 2009 in the Capitol Regional Hospital of Jefferson City, Missouri at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 2 days. Shirley will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her loving husband: Jack; seven children: Glenda Gan of Lebanon, MO, Sue Rowe of Camdenton, MO, Danny Stewart of Leavenworth, KS, Charlotte Noll of Russellville, MO, Pandora Prince and Alice Behrens both of Barnett, MO, and Elaine Morris of California, MO; one sister: Barbara Perkins of Richland, MO; two brothers: Dick Alexander of Crocker, MO and Bobby Alexander of Montreal, MO; twelve grandchildren: Matthew, Jenna, Lyle, Trevor, Leah, Matthew, Marsha, Perry, Erika, Jakeb, Katy and Nathan; 15 great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one brother: Mickey Alexander and one granddaughter: Cindy. At 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 5, 2009, Rev. Christopher S. Hendrix, Sr. shared comforting words with the congregation gathered at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland. A graveside service followed in the Hazelgreen Cemetery. Serving as escorts were Bobby Don West, Matthew Farris, Randy and Keith Alexander, Joe Elliott and Robert Noll. Services were under direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland.
