Agnes Compton

Agnes Compton, daughter of Heinrich Georg and Rosa (Lederer) Schober, was born January 19, 1946, in Lauf, Germany. She departed this life Wednesday, March 21, 2012, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, in Rolla, at the age of sixty-six years, two months and two days. On June 3, 1966, in Lauf, Germany, she was united in marriage to Vernon Calvin Compton, and they have shared the last forty-five years together. She was preceded in death by her parents. Agnes is survived by her husband, Vernon Compton of the home; three children: William Compton of Jefferson City, MO, Eric Compton (Donna) of Laquey, MO and Andrea Scheer (Jeff) of Licking, MO; six granddaughters: Felicia Gilbreath (Jess), Melissa Breeden, Kaleena Scheer, Ericka Compton, Aggie Compton, and Andrea Compton; two great grandchildren: Emma and Caiden Gilbreath; two siblings: Max Schober (Irene) and Elfriede Clinkscales (Morris), both of Germany; several other relatives and friends. She was born and reared in Germany, where she met and married Vernon. Three children were born to this union. The love she held for her family was very special to her. Agnes was a follower of the Protestant Faith. She was a member of the Waynesville Rural Fire Department and the St. Robert Rural Fire Department and was an Assistant Chief from 1980 to 1986. Throughout her life, she worked several places doing house cleaning and had worked at the dining halls on Ft. Leonard Wood. She loved doing anything outdoors; going to NASCAR Auto Races, caring for her yard, and animals of all kinds. Most of all she enjoyed being with people, especially going to the boat casinos. Agnes was a loving wife, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a cherished sister and aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and accomplishments and treasure the memories she created for her family and friends. She will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Bro. Steven Woolsey officiating. William Compton also recalled his wonderful memories of his mother. The songs “I Will Always Love You”, “Keeper of the Stars”, “Amazing Grace”, “Ave Maria” and “Go Rest High on that Mountain”. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Agnes Compton to the Firefighters Burns Organization and may be left at the funeral home.
