Alberta G. Powers

Alberta G. Powers, daughter of the late Frank and Katherine Frannie (Yates) Janes, was born April 2, 1921 in Lebanon, Missouri. Alberta was reared by John and Ethel Powers and she attended school in Richland, Missouri. On July 10, 1938, Alberta was united in marriage to F. Ivy Powers in Richland, Missouri. They shared 70 years of marriage together and were blessed with three daughters: Sharon Kay, Kathryn Ann and Darlene Gray. Alberta was able to stay at home and raise her girls. She loved providing for her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richland and attended every time she could until her health started to decline. Alberta went home to be with her Lord at 10:45 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 in the ManorCare Nursing Care of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 92 years. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Alberta leaves to cherish her memory, her two daughters: Kay Powers and Darlene Gray, both of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren: John Gray and wife Carrie, Julie Gray-Gilstrap and husband Stuart, Tiffany Runyon and Stacy Black and husband Rob; eight great grandchildren: Chris Gilstrap and wife Sarah, Kim, Katie, and Kendra Gilstrap, Brooklyn and Houston Black, Cody Gray, and Clay Gray and wife Heather; three great-great grandchildren: Braxton and Kayden Gray and Amelia Gilstrap; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, F. Ivy Powers; one daughter: Katherine Anne Runyon; and one brother: Lester Janes; and one sister: Orveda Davis. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2013 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating, the obituary was read by Alberta's great grandson, Chris Gilstrap, and a prayer was given by her grandson, John Gray. Favorite music selections included "If You Only Knew" by Vivian King, "Amazing Grace" and "I'll Fly Away" by great grandson, Houston Black, a congregational hymn "Blessed Assurance" was led by Stuart Gilstrap, as Marleen Brown accompanied them. Serving as pallbearers were Cody Gray, Chris Gilstrap, John Gray, Clay Gray, Houston Black, Rob Black and Stuart Gilstrap. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made to the Operation Christmas Child (Samaritan’s Purse), Good Shepherd Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association and may be left at the funeral home.
