Anna "Irene" (Newell) Shelton

Irene Shelton of Richland, Missouri passed away September 2, 2022, in Lebanon, Missouri, having attained the age of 99 years. She was born July 16, 1923 on a farm near Richland, Missouri. Irene is the daughter of Roy and Myrtle (Warren) Newell. At an early age Irene made a profession of faith following in baptism. She loved the Lord and served him faithfully. She united in marriage to Ola A. Shelton March 26, 1951 and to this marriage eight children were born. She is preceded in death by her husband Ola Shelton, two sons Jerry and Jimmy, her parents, and one sister, Pauline Mitschele. Survivors are four sons: Lonnie and Janis Shelton of Big Bend National Park, Texas, Leonard and Chris Shelton of Richland, Missouri, Dennis Shelton of Richland, Missouri, and Dale and Shannon Shelton of Yakima, Washington, two daughters: Donna and Danny Paul of Richland, Missouri, and Mary Kays of Richland, Missouri; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and her little dog, “Snoopy.” Irene worked outside of her home as a waitress at Byrds Café for several years, before devoting all her time and energy towards taking care of her home, while lovingly raising her family, along with the house dogs throughout her life. She loved going to dances and going on long trail rides. Irene also liked planting flowers, and singing around the house, and enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Irene loved her family very much. Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a caring sister and friend. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. We celebrate her life and will treasure the wonderful memories she created for her family and friends. She will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Pastor Bradley Jemes officiating. Pastor Jemes also read a poem entitled, My Last Request. Music selections included, “When We All Get To Heaven,” “Lily Of the Valley,” and “Goodnight Irene.” Escorts included Mike Shelton, Ethan Butteris, Austin Butteris, Justin Shelton, Gabe Butteris and Lucas Smith. Honorary escorts were Brayden Shelton and Don Newell. Burial followed in the Elm Grove Cemetery near Richland, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Irene Shelton and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Richland.
