Bertha Mae Nesbitt

Bertha Mae Nesbitt, daughter of the late Carl and Annie Nannie (Heathcock) Gaston, was born February 1, 1932 in Paris, Arkansas. Bertha grew up in Paris and graduated from Paris High School in 1950. After living in Germany for a while, Bertha moved to the Fort Leonard Wood area in 1966. She began working as a civil service employee and did so until her retirement in 1995 after 26 years and 11 months of service. In her spare time, Bertha enjoyed reading and was very talented with handwork, such as quilts and crocheting. She was a member of a bowling league and enjoyed bowling with her friends. As a young woman, Bertha accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized. She was a very active member of the Assembly of God Church in St. Robert and was there every time she could until her health did not permit her to do so. She loved her church and church family. Besides her church, Bertha’s greatest love was her family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha went home to be with her Lord at 1:15 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2010 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 19 days. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Bertha leaves to cherish her memory one daughter: Ramona K. Baker of Paramount, CA, two siblings: Leon W. Gaston (Ruby) and Laverne Brown, all of Derby, KS; one sister-in-law: Norma Gaston of Union City, TN; two grandchildren: Charlene Nesbitt (Mike Davis) of Waynesville, MO and Anthony Baker, Sr. (Sherrell) of St. Louis, MO; five great grandchildren: Patrick, Desiree, Darrian, Anthony Jr. and Nicklus; several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Bertha was preceded in death by two brothers: James and Earl Gaston and one sister: Mary Riley. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville with Pastor Chris Wiggs officiating. The songs “In the Garden” and “How Great Thou Art” were played. Serving as escorts were Anthony Baker, Sr., Leon Gaston, Patrick Sweetsir, Wesley Gaston, Dana Potter, Mike Davis and David Faulkner. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
