Betty Ruth Douglas

Betty Ruth Douglas was born February 3, 1937 to Henry Meyer and Elma (Osborn) Meyer. Betty was lovingly cared for and raised by Twila Meyer who she loved deeply. Betty was born and raised in Lebanon, Missouri. She married William Warren Douglas Sr. on November 1, 1954 near Lebanon, Missouri. Together Betty and William shared nearly fifty-four years of wonderful memories together before his passing on March 16, 1999. Betty and William, a military man, moved to Colorado for a few years, before having to ship out to Germany. After William’s discharge, they moved to a Dry Knob area farm where they lived for several years, and later moved into the Lebanon area before settling on their beloved farm near Richland where Betty has been ever since. Betty loved being a farmer’s wife and was a devoted mother to their seven children. She not only worked to create a wonderful home for the family she loved and adored, but also worked outside the home during her lifetime as a Home Health Aide, school bus driver, an Oats bus driver, a babysitter, and seamstress. Betty could grow anything and enjoyed gardening however, caring for her family was always her first priority in life. Betty had enough love in her heart to become a Foster mother to Rosie, Jeannie, Sylvia, and Kenny. There was always room for one more in Betty’s life and children were welcomed into her loving home. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, three sisters, Georgia Maylene Meyer, Kay Meyer, and Denise Letterman; and Twila Meyer who Betty called mom. Betty was able to live at home with the love and care from her grandson, William Douglas, and Adrian Garrett before moving into the Care Center; and especially enjoyed a special bond with her great-grandson, Dallas Douglas. Betty enjoyed a happy, full, and wonderful life with her friends and family. She could do most anything and enjoyed doing everything in life. Betty’s beautiful spirit went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 28, 2024, while in the Richland Care Center having attained the age of 87. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, seven children: Susan Douglas of Salt Lake City, UT, Stephany Lawrence (Jimmy) of Peculiar, MO, Sandra Sheehan (John) of Middleton, WI, Sonia Douglas of of the state of FL, William Douglas, Jr. of Richland, MO, Sharon Watkins (Ronald) of Gadsden, AL, and Stephen Douglas (Missy) of Richland, MO; thirty grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; four siblings: Gladys Smith of Higginsville, MO, George Henry Meyer, Jr. of Eldridge, MO, Harry Meyer of Lebanon, MO, and Aleta Duncan of Lebanon, MO; four foster children whom she raised: Rosie, Jeannie, Sylvia, and Kenny; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Betty was faithful in her commitment to care for and love her family. It is her legacy that will forever live on in the many lives she touched in so many lives in positive ways during her time her on earth. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Pastor Matt Brady officiating. Special songs played included, “It Is No Secret,” “I Did It My Way,” “In The Garden,” ”Country Bumpkin,” and “Chiseled In Stone.” Family and Friends served as escorts. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery near Richland, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Betty Douglas and may be left at Memorial Chapel of Richland.
