Brian Joseph Pohar

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Joseph Pohar, born May 24th, 1969. Brian departed this life on November 30th, 2024, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. At the time of his passing Brian was surrounded by family and friends who all loved him very much. Brian was a beloved husband, son, friend, and his greatest accomplishment, being a father. Brian was born and raised in La Salle, Illinois by his mother Betty and father Robert. As a child Brian had a deep love for sports, especially baseball, and enjoyed playing year after year. Upon completing high school Brian enlisted in the United States Army and served his country as a heavy equipment operator. While being stationed in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Brian met the love of his life Jennifer. Brian and Jennifer were united in marriage on July 3, 1993, in St. Robert, Missouri. Brian and Jennifer spent 31 years together and they had two beautiful children Dylan and Breeana whom he was immensely proud of. Brian worked all his life to provide for his family. He held many positions throughout his life from being a truck driver, city worker, bartender, gate guard, and most recently he was a civilian duty driver for Ft. Leonard Wood. He enjoyed his job greatly and made connections with the people he worked with. He served as a duty driver until he medically retired earlier this year. To know Brian was to love him dearly, he never knew a stranger and welcomed anyone with open arms. Brian enjoyed many things in life, but what he cherished most was spending time with his loved ones. He was the happiest when all his friends and family gathered at his home, and he could cook a meal for everyone to enjoy. Brian enjoyed cooking on his smoker above all else. You would always find Brian down in his garage keeping a close eye on the food he was cooking while sitting at his table with his best buddy Floyd. You would find Brian with a cigarette in hand and Floyd with a dip of chew scrolling through his various genres of music, singing his heart out. You never knew what song would be playing next. Brian had a love for the Chicago Bears that he shared through the years with his son. Brian would always reminisce about the 1985 Bears and how they were the greatest team in football. Brian got the opportunity to see the Bears take on the Chiefs this year in pre-season and enjoyed watching his team dominate the Chiefs with his family. In the evenings you could find Brian enjoying time with his wife and pets while watching his favorite shows. Brian loved all the Alaska shows that were televised and always dreamed of being able to take a trip to Alaska with his family to enjoy the scenery and be able to experience the local food. Brian would spend time with his daughter in the kitchen baking treats for them to both enjoy while spending time watching movies together which they made about halfway through before you would find them both in their spots on the couch napping. As you can tell, Brian was a very family-oriented man and cherished every minute he had with them. Brian is survived by his wife Jennifer (Dixon, MO), son Dylan Pohar & wife Jenna Pohar (Lebanon, MO), daughter Breeana Pohar-Lucas & husband Corey Lucas (St. Robert, MO), in-laws Floyd Johnson & Sharon Johnson (Dixon, MO), brother Robert Pohar & wife Lynne Pohar (La Salle, Illinois), sister Christa Horton & husband Jamie Horton (Richland, Missouri), sister Chrystal Hancock (La Salle, Illinois), sister Stacey Pohar (La Salle, Illinois), and stepmother Christine Pohar (La Salle, Illinois). Those proceeding Brian in death is his father Robert Pohar and his mother Betty Diedrick. Graveside services with military honors were held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2024 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri with Chaplain (MAJ) Mathew Mortenson officiating. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Wayensville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Brian Pohar and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
