Carol "Sue" Echelberry

Carol “Sue” (Hopkins) Echelberry daughter of the late Roswell Isaac and Lillian Dell (Curry) Hopkins was born October 11, 1940 in Bowling Green, Missouri. Sue as everyone called her attended elementary school in Buckner Hollow and later attended High School at Bowling Green High. Sue attended church as a child at Providence Presbyterian Church in Vera, Missouri. As fate would have it, Sue met and fell in love with a handsome young man, Glen Orville Echelberry. The two were married on December 26, 1957 in Bowling Green, Missouri and were later blessed with three precious children, Janice Elaine, Debbie Lee and Ricky Lane. The happy couple shared many years of love, joy, family, friends, and a lifetime of memories together before Glen’s passing in 2004. Sue found great joy in caring for her family and home. She also worked outside the home at the H.D. Lee factory in Richland for many years until the mid1980’s. In her spare time Sue enjoyed sewing, painting ceramics, crafting, gardening, going to yard sales in hope of finding a bargain, and hunting for mushrooms. However, her most treasured moments were time spent with her family. Sue departed from this life on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at her home near Richland having attained the age of 75. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Glen, her siblings, Bob Hopkins, Virginia Ulrich, Mary Darlene Pearson, Bill Hopkins and her beloved grandson Joshua Jones. Sue leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children: Janice Elaine Vick (John Michael “Bubba”) of Climax Springs, MO, Debbie Lee Doyle (William “Bill”) of Iberia, MO and Rick Lane Echelberry of Richland, MO; one brother: Glenn Hopkins (Dawnn) of Springfield, IL; one sister: Marjorie Fletcher of Richland, MO; 6 Grandchildren: Danny Jones (Jennifer) of Richland, MO, Lacy Kissel (Josh) of the state of NC, Andrew Doyle of Dove, MO, Matthew Doyle of Iberia, MO, Brittanie Echelberry of Richland, MO and Bradly Echelberry of St. Louis, MO; 7 great grandchildren: Deanna, Sarah, Cody, Aydin JulieAnn, JayLyn Jones and Johnathon Inman; Sue’s special caregiver Stacy Haggard, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Sue will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend. She was proud of her family and loved them more than anything. She always had a warm smile and a hug to share with everyone. Sue was a beautiful person inside, as well as on the outside. She was compassionate, witty, and loving, this was her legacy. Though we will miss her presence, today we choose to celebrate her life, and will treasure the many wonderful memories she has created with her family and friends. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Pastor Larry Suggs officiating. Recorded music selections included “I’ll Fly Away,” “Hole in the Floor of Heaven,” “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “Tears in Heaven.” Serving as pallbearers were Danny Jones, Andrew Doyle, Matthew Doyle, Bradly Echelberry, Michael Echelberry and Darwin Nicoli. Burial followed in the Mount View Cemetery near Richland, MO. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sue Echelberry and may be left at the funeral home.
