Charlotte Maria Allen

Charlotte Maria Allen, daughter of the late Johannas and Francesca Liebert, was born March 17, 1938, in Heidenheim, Germany where she grew up and graduated from school. Charlotte met a young United States soldier by the name of Shelby Gene Allen, who was serving in Germany at the time. They began dating and were united in marriage on May 9, 1959. Shortly after marrying, Charlotte and Shelby traveled all over the world to different duty stations until he retired in 1977 from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. Charlotte and Shelby were blessed with seven children: Sylvia “Butchy”, Barbara, Karen, Kenny, Sandy, Tom, and Suzanne. After his retirement from the military, Shelby, Charlotte, and the family settled in the St. Robert, Missouri area where they pursued a joint business venture and opened a car dealership called “Spur Auto Sales” which they ran until 2020, closing after 35 years of service to the community. Even though Charlotte and Shelby owned the dealership together, Charlotte’s main focus was raising her children. She stayed at home and cared for them until the last one had graduated from high school. After that time, she helped in a bigger capacity at the dealership. Charlotte loved her children (Club Allen) and they continued to be her priority even after leaving home and starting their own families. She was the matriarch of the family, peacemaker, and problem solver. She enjoyed having her grandchildren spend the night with her every chance they could. In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed cooking and her dishes were always a hit at every family function. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan, especially of Yadier Molina and Albert Pujols. She enjoyed watching birds feed on her window bird feeder, looking at her flowers, watching HGTV and visiting with friends. Charlotte also had a faithful companion in her dog Sasha, who she loved very much. Charlotte passed away peacefully Friday, July 1, 2022, in the Mercy Hospital of Springfield, Missouri after struggling with many health problems. She had attained the age of 84. Charlotte leaves to cherish her memory, her six children: Sylvia “Butchy” Newkirk (Gene) of St. Robert, MO, Barbara Thomas (Jim) of Dixon, MO, Karen Espinoza (James Clark) of Rolla, Mo, Kenny Allen (Patty) of Dixon, MO, Sandy Johnson (Kevin) of Lebanon, MO, and Tom Allen (Haidemarie) of St. Robert, MO; eight grandchildren: Raymond Espinoza, Christina Underwood, Jennifer Turner, Jonathon Allen, Kyle Allen, Brittany Holman, Austin Allen, and Madison Trumbo; numerous great grandchildren; one sister: Elsa Gott of Germany; nieces: Elizabeth Coburn, Cindy Coburn, Tiffany Batacao, and Chrissy Allen; nephew: Mike Allen; other relatives and numerous friends. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years: Shelby Gene Allen; one daughter: Suzanne Allen; one sister: Gabi Coburn; and one grandson: Bradley Shackleford. Even though she is gone from our sight, her love of life will live on in our hearts forever. Charlotte will always be remembered as the best mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Richard Baptiste officiating. The songs “Ave Maria” by Luciano Pavarotti, “Because You Loved Me” by Celine Dione, “How Great Thou Art” by Carrie Underwood, and “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban were played. Several friends and family recalled their wonderful memories of Charlotte. Serving as escorts were Kenny Allen, Tom Allen, Gene Newkirk, Jonathon Allen, Raymond Espinoza, and Austin Allen. Serving as honorary escorts were Kevin Johnson, Joe Underwood, and Kyle Turner. Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Charlotte Allen and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
