Clifton Lee Jones, Sr.

Clifton Lee Jones, Sr., one of six children born to the late William Harvey and Eva Francis (Sheha) Jones, was born in the family home in Camden County near Montreal, Missouri, on January 15, 1927. Cliff was raised in, and attended grade school in Montreal and later Stoutland High School where he graduated with the Class of 1945. Cliff entered the United States Army during World War II. He served in Italy with the 351st Infantry Division. He was a proud and true soldier; and received many medals and commendations for his faithful service. Upon his honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed by Civil Service were he continued serving and supporting our men and women of our Armed Services at Fort Leonard Wood. He retired in 1973. On March 28, 1964 in Eldon, Missouri, Cliff was united in marriage to Roberta J. (Decker) Bowles. Cliff and Roberta shared over 47 years together and five loving children. Cliff loved his family very much. Some of the most special times with the family came when they would work and laugh together caring for their cattle on their beautiful farm northwest of Crocker on Tavern Creek. Children and grandchildren will cherish those times spent with Dad and Grandpa forever. Cliff was a regular morning visitor to Andy’s Shortstop in Crocker; it was one of his favorite parts of his day. He always liked visiting with his friends and neighbors while enjoying a good cup of coffee. He was sure to bring home a “treat” for any of the grandkids that were staying over. Clifton was a lifetime member of the Crocker VFW. Cliff departed this life at 8:57 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla. He attained the age of 84 years, 7 months and 3 days. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife: Roberta; five children: Clifton Lee Jones, Jr., Lewis Bowles, Pam Smith and Jerry Bowles all of Crocker and Debra Bowles of Camdenton; one sister: Helen Boren of Crocker; ten grandchildren: Brett Alan Jones, Jessica Paige, Jarrett and Theresa Reedy, Jake Reedy, James Reedy, Becky and Katie Bowles, Sheila and Chris Layman, Sondra and Jerry Ellis, and Lewis Bowles, Jr.; twelve great grandchildren: Khiara and Lily Hughes, Skyeler Layman, Ethan, Parker and Rylee Ellis, Reagan and Kaden Reedy, Brooke and Carson Reedy, and Savannah and Gracelyn Williams; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Cliff was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Adams; three brothers: Bernard, Billy and Ralph Jones; three nephews: Gary and Bobby Adams and Bubby Tanner and one niece: Vicki Diane. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2011in the Concord Christian Church of Crocker, Missouri with Rev. Lee Todd and Rev. Billy Claiborn officiating. The songs “Just A Rose Will Do”, “I Can Only Imagine” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” were played. Serving as escorts were Brett Jones, Jessica Paige, Jarrett Reedy, Jake Reedy, James Reedy, Rebecca Bowles, Katie Bowles, Sheila Layman, Chris Layman, Sondra Ellis, Jerry Ellis, Lewis Bowles, Jr. and Larry Taylor. Serving as honorary escorts were Khiara Hughes, Lily Hughes, Shyeler Layman, Ethan Ellis, Parker Ellis, Rylee Ellis, Reagan Reedy, Kaden Reedy, Brooke Reedy, Carson Reedy, Savannah Williams and Gracelyn Williams. Burial with military honors followed in the Concord Christian Church Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Clifton Jones, Sr. and may be left at the funeral home.
