CW2 (Ret) Dennis Ray Fleming

Dennis Ray Fleming was born December 1, 1945 in Danville, Illinois. He was one of seven children born to the union of the late Harlan Rush and Marjorie Winifred (Thompson) Fleming. Dennis entered the United States Army on June 24, 1963 and served his country faithfully until his retirement on September 30, 1991. He was awarded many medals and commendations; some of which include: the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award) Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Vietnam Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/Palm, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, and the Mechanics Badge. He had attained the rank of CW2. On July 10, 1966, Dennis was united in marriage to the love of his life, Michealeen Sueanne Troxel in Humrick, Illinois. They shared over 44 years of marriage together and were blessed with three daughters: April, Theresa and Summer. After retiring from the military, Dennis began working in Lebanon, Missouri for Copeland where he spent a total of 19 years. In his spare time, Dennis was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching every game that he could. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. Dennis passed away at 3:24 a.m., Sunday, November 21, 2010, at General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Ft. Leonard Wood at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 20 days. He will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Dennis leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Mickey; three daughters: April and Mose Lowe of Seminole, Oklahoma, Theresa and Lance Wilson of Waynesville and Summer Fleming and Jeff Pharris of Eldon; five siblings: Carol Diane Troxel (Jack) of Buckhead, Georgia, Marilyn Hatcher of Danville, Illinois, Eugene Fleming (Patsy) of Chicago, Illinois, John Fleming (Arletta) of Cayuga, Indiana and Wanda Webster (Rich) of Paris, Illinois; sister: Carol Fleming Niccum of Georgetown, IL; three grandchildren: Billy Peden, Donna Peden and Nickolas Pharris; two great grandchildren: Amber and Brooke Colvin; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by one brother: Richard Fleming. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Chaplain (MAJ) James Smith officiating. The songs “Please Release Me”, “Daddy’s Hands”, “Daddy’s Girl”, “The Greatest Man I Never Knew”, “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” and “I’m Already There” were played. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery ~ Ft. Leonard Wood with military honors being provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dennis Fleming to the American Diabetes Association and may be left at the funeral home.
