Dale C. Roam

Dale Roam, 83, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2011 at Tavares Hospice, near his home in Leesburg, Florida. Dale and his late wife, Florence, were the longtime owners and operators of Roam’s Dari Creems located in Camdenton and Osage Beach. Born on February 5, 1928, Dale was the only son of Lon and Odessa Roam, and younger brother to Fern (McMillian) and Lucille (Howlett). As a young man he ran the family’s extensive cattle farm operation, in addition to working as an union carpenter in the Waynesville/St. Roberts area. Dale married his high school sweetheart, Florence (Nicks) and they spent 55 happy years together raising a family, building a business, and enjoying winters in Key West, Florida. Dale will be remembered for his easy-going manner, his pleasant ways, and dedication to his work and family. He always had a smile for everyone, gave great hugs, and was a joy to be around. A keen fisherman, he took great joy in sharing the sport and his catch with others and made his “fish frys” famous and eagerly anticipated. For a boy who rode to school on horseback, he had a lifelong love affair with the automobile, and was still “fiddling” with his used car sales up until the day of his stroke. He was the beloved father of Lonnie, Judy, Myra, Doug, Terry and Cindy and the devoted patriarch to nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His dear aunt, Helen (Roam) Nicks of Waynesville is left to mourn his passing, along with nieces, nephews, friends, and business acquaintances. “We will always remember his kind and gentle heart. You taught us the value of hard work, loyalty, kindness and family. You showed us that happiness doesn’t come from outside things, but from being true to your heart, respecting and loving yourself, family, friends, and the world at large. We shall always remember in our heart your easy-going manner, pleasant ways, and dedication to God, country, work, and family.
