SGM (Ret) Daniel Ray Osmon

Daniel Ray Osmon, son of the late Raymond Paul Osmon and Ruby Laverne (Middleton) Osmon, was born October 15, 1947 in Flint, Michigan where he grew up and attended school. Shortly after graduating from high school, Daniel entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement after 23 years of faithful service. For his faithful service, Daniel earned the rank of Sergeant Major and several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm (Unit), Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal, Sharpshooter Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle, and Expert Qualification Badge 9mm Pistol. During his time in the military, Daniel was a general engineering supervisor as a Sergeant Major, construction equipment supervisor instructor as a First Sergeant, construction equipment supervisor, and range terrain forklift operator. After his time in the military, Daniel continued serving with the Missouri Department of Corrections for 11 years, Boys and Girls Club, and the Missouri Department of Conservation. On June 15, 1996, Daniel was united in marriage to Debbi Lynn Reid in St. Robert, Missouri. They shared over 27 years of marriage together and between the two, they shared seven children: Misty, Patrick, Jami, Tammi, Eugene, Tony, and Faith. During his younger years, Daniel was an avid hunter and fisherman. After retirement, he occupied his time by spending countless hours in his garage piddling around. If he didn’t have something he wanted to build or helping a friend, he was rearranging his tools again. He was a proud husband and father but he was most proud to be Papa. His favorite time of year was when he could tend to his flowers and going to yard sales. Papa always looked forward to the weekends when he could take Mia junkin’ and McDonald’s. Daniel also loved to refurbish antiques, especially tools. Daniel had made a profession of faith and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Waynesville. He served his church as trustee and usher. He was on the nominating committee and messenger to the Pulaski County Baptist Association. Daniel valued his time worshipping the Lord here on earth. On Monday, March 18, 2024, Daniel went home to be with his Lord having attained the age of 76 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Debbi Osmon of the home; seven children: Misty Osmon of St. Robert, MO, Patrick Osmon of Flat, MO, Jami Osmon of Enterprise, AL, Tammi Harris (Russ) of Beaufort, SC, Eugene Brewer (Melanie) of Enville, TN, Tony Brewer (April) of Wentzville, MO, and Faith Slusser (Mike) of Jefferson City, MO; thirteen grandchildren: Amelia Halton, Jordan Slusser, Alexis Slusser, Zain Slusser, Brooke Harris, Andi Harris, Darren Osmon, Aleigha Brewer, Garbiel Brewer, Mason Winters, Joshua Brewer, Nichols Brewer, and Samantha Brewer; three great grandchildren; one sister: Debbie Henson of Flint, MI; mother and father-in-law: Minnis and Mary Mullins; adopted daughter: Mary Halton; sisters-in-law: Vicki, Michael, Cindy, Netti, Mary, and Janette; daughter-in-law: Julia Osmon; brothers and sisters in Christ; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Daniel had four small dogs that he loved and cared for. Bentley was his baby and always slept in his arms. Jimmy, Thelma, and Hobo were always with him to take their naps. They will miss him as well. In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by brothers: Joseph Osmon, Gerald Osmon and Roger Lawson; and sisters: Linda Henson and Teresa Beatenhead. Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024 in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville, Missouri with Pastor Steve Clark officiating. Also speaking at the service were John Abshier and Jose Mendez, fellow church members with Daniel. The songs “Dancing in the Sky”, “Sweet By and By” and “When We All Get to Heaven” were played. Soloist Doreen Horn sang “Sweet Beulah Land”. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville with military honors being provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of SGM (Ret) Daniel Osmon and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
