SFC (Ret) David Lawrence Taylor

David Lawrence Taylor, son of the late Richard Marion Taylor and Florence Elinore (Lantz) Taylor, was born August 31, 1950, in Seattle, Washington. As a young boy, David grew up in Seattle where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1969 from Shoreline High School. Shortly after graduation, David entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1990. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class and earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal (Marine Corps), Army Achievement Medal (2), Meritorious Mast, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Good Conduct Medal (6), Marksman Qualification Badge M-16 Rifle, and Meritorious Service Medal. He was proud of serving in the military and considered it a great honor to do so. During his time in the military, David served in Vietnam and was the head cook for the troops while there. He truly enjoyed feeding the troops. His love of cooking and baking started during his childhood and continued throughout his life. At the time of his retirement, David was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. He decided to remain in the area after his retirement. He loved the area, especially for hunting and fishing, which he enjoyed doing. David worked in the St. Robert, Missouri area with a moving company for a time after his retirement from the military. David was an animal lover and in his younger years, he enjoyed going to his grandparents’ home and riding the horses that they had on the farm. He was also a Seattle Seahawk football fan and even though he was a quiet man, he was known to make a few non-monetary bets with the nursing home staff that if his team won, they had to do something for him and vice versa. While at the nursing home, David enjoyed the weekly time singing hymns and worshipping with the other residents. David passed Sunday, October 20, 2024, in the Dixon Nursing and Rehab Center of Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 74 years. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. David leaves to cherish his memory, his son: Robbie Taylor of Milton, FL; two sisters: Carmen Marsall (John Richter) of Seattle, WA and Connie Ashe (Bill) of Renton, WA; several other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and grandparents, David was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Even though he is gone from our sight, David’s quiet, caring, and gentle spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2024 in the Memorial Chapel of Waynesville, Missouri with Chaplain Bennett, United States Army Chaplain, officiating. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of SFC (Ret) David Taylor to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
