SSG (Ret) Donald Henry Manhalter Jr.

Donald Henry Manhalter, Jr., son of the late Donald Henry Manhalter, Sr. and Delores May (Helvie) Manhalter, was born December 9, 1970, in Sterling, Colorado where he grew up and graduated from high school. Don entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement in 2022. For his faithful service, Don earned several awards and commendations; some of which included: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Meritorious Unit Commendation (3Rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal w/Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/2 Campaign Stars (2nd Award), Iraq Campaign Medal w/ Campaign Star, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), Kosovo Campaign Medal w/ Bronze Service Star, NATO Medal (2nd Award), Basic Army Instructor Badge, Combat Actional Badge, Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge, and Driver and Mechanic Badge w/Driver-Wheeled Vehicles Clasp. He had attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and at the time of his retirement he had served a combined total of 28 years (active duty and reserves). On August 28, 1993, Don was united in marriage to Robyn Frances Austin in Sterling, Colorado. They shared over 30 years of marriage and three children, Ashley, Chase, and Makayla. Don was very talented when it came to woodworking. He enjoyed making different items for his family and friends. He was a weapons instructor and enjoyed participating in firearm competitions and visiting the friends he made along the way at the competitions. Don loved his family dearly. He loved spending time with them, especially playing with the grandchildren. They were his pride and joy, and he treasured all the time the family could spend together. Don passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in the Fayette County Memorial Hospital of Washington Courthouse, Ohio having attained the age of 53 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Robyn F. Manhalter of Waynesville, MO; three children: Ashley Smith (Micah) of Eldon, MO, Chase Manhalter (Katie) of Rolla, MO, and Makayla Manhalter of Waynesville, MO; three grandchildren: Amari, Ezekiel, and Titus, with one on the way; two sisters: Nancy Manhalter of Sterling, CO, and Joanna Trevino (Romero) of Sterling, CO; mother-in-law: Darlene Alber of Waynesville, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Even though he is gone from our sight, Don’s commitment to his country and love for his family will live on in our hearts forever.
