Dorothy Ellan Coogan

Dorothy Ellan Coogan, one of nine children born to the late Joseph and Annie (Delaney) Wieners, was born March 18, 1924 in Clementine, Missouri. As a young girl, she attended Dry Creek School. On August 17, 1943 in Hazelgreen, Missouri, Dorothy was united in marriage to Vernie Alvan Coogan. They shared many wonderful years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Marcella, Ralph and Alvin. Vernie preceded Dorothy in death on January 8, 1997 after 53 years of marriage together. For the majority of her working years, Dorothy was able to stay at home and raise her family, but for several years, she worked as a dietary aide at the Lucy Lee Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Dorothy was very neat and organized and kept her home in that manner. Being organized was a must when it came to being an avid stamp collector, which Dorothy enjoyed doing in her spare time. She also in times past, loved to do jigsaw puzzles and made many rag rugs for her family and friends. Dorothy passed away Thursday, December 28, 2017 in the Cox South Hospital of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 93 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Dorothy E. Coogan is survived by three children: Marcella VanDeVenter of Laquey, MO, Ralph Coogan of San Antonio, TX and Alvin (Karen) Coogan of Wright City MO; two brothers: Clarence (Judy) Wieners of Laquey, MO and Lester (Dolores) Wieners of Independence, MO; two sister-in-laws: Zella Wieners of Waynesville, MO and Ruth Wieners of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by six siblings: Hilda Vogt, Clara Williams, Darold Wieners, Howard Wieners, Willie Wieners and Ersie Wieners. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Christopher Hendrix officiating. The songs “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were played. Serving as escorts were family and friends. Burial followed in the Fairview Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy Coogan and may be left at the funeral home.
