Dorothy Margaret Alberhasky

Dorothy Margaret Alberhasky, daughter of the late Gustav and Gertrude (Strub) Miller, was born September 14, 1921 in Iowa City, Iowa where she grew up and attended school. During World War II, Dorothy served her country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1944. She served in Washington, D.C. at the Naval Barracks working with IBM computers. On April 4, 1944, Dorothy was united in marriage to Donald Dean Alberhasky in Iowa City. They shared many wonderful years together and were blessed with three girls: Sandy, Terri and Peggy. While still living in Iowa City, Dorothy was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She worked for JC Penney as a supervisor in the catalog department and retired after many years of faithful service. After retirement, Dorothy went to work for the Iowa City Press Citizen and worked there for a several years. In 2001, Dorothy came to live with her daughter Sandy in Laquey, Missouri. She enjoyed being able to be close to her daughter and some of her grandchildren. She liked playing cards and the penny slot machines, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends, especially the grand and great grandchildren. Dorothy passed away at 1:56 AM Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in St. John’s Health Center of Lebanon, Missouri at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 1 day. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Sandy Jones of Laquey, MO and Peggy Yarber of Bakersfield, CA; 8 grandchildren: Johnny Jones of Rolla, MO, Kris Tetmeyer of West Des Moines, IA, Tim Jones of San Diego, CA, Stefi Abel of Ackeny, IA, David Jones of Waynesville, MO, Adam Hanrahan of Hiawatha, IA, and Gaia and Isis Yarber of Bakersfield, CA; 14 great grandchildren: Jake, Teage, Megan, Kayla, Madison, Jaden, Sam, Rylie, TJ, Isaiah, Gracie, Brooke, Sophie and Austin; several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband: Donald; daughter: Terri Ann Hanrahan; one sister: Lucille Cooney; four brothers: Harry, Leo, Bud and Perry Miller; and one son-in-law: Sam Jones. Graveside services with military honors were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 19, 2010 in the Memory Gardens Cemetery of Iowa City, Iowa with Father Rudolph Juarez officiating. Soloist Sue Bolander sang “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone”. Military honors were provided by the United States Navy. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy Alberhasky and may be left at the funeral home.
