Eddie Acosta

Edward “Eddie” Acosta, son of Everardo Acosta and Juanita (Paradez) Marquez, was born January 15, 1964 in Dallas, Texas where he grew up. Eddie graduated from Sunset High School in 1982 and attended Dallas Baptist University for two years. In 1985, Eddie enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly until his retirement in 2005. He had attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. For his faithful service, Eddie received several awards and commendations; some of which include: the Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Southwest Asia Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer’s Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Kuwait Liberation Medal (K), Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, and the Zaire Military Parachutist Badge. After retiring from the Army, Eddie began working as a civilian on Fort Leonard Wood as a heavy equipment operator and instructor. In his spare time, Eddie enjoyed fishing, spending time with his children, and visiting with friends. Eddie was a member of the Waynesville Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Shrine Club, VFW Post 3168 of Laquey, Legion of Honor and the Freedom of the Road Riders. He was very instrumental in raising a lot of money for his favorite charity, the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Eddie passed away July 2, 2010 at the age of 46 years, 5 months and 17 days. Eddie will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved him. Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his mother: Juanita Marquez (Pete) of Pleasant Grove, TX; three children: Edward Acosta, Jr. and Emilio Acosta both of Dixon, MO and Kasha Humphrey of Washington, MO and their mother, Sheila Acosta of Dixon, MO; three siblings: Argentina Rodriguez and Sarah Gonzalez, both of Pleasant Grove, TX and Everardo Acosta, Jr. (Marina) of DeSoto, TX; nieces: Elizabeth Rodriguez, Stephanie Acosta and Priscilla Ford; nephews: Guadalupe Bravo Jr., Michael Gonzales Jr., Everardo Acosta III, Fabian Lopez, Martin Acosta and Christian Lopez; other relatives and a host of friends. Eddie was preceded in death by his father: Everardo Acosta and one infant brother. Masonic funeral services were held at 9:00 A.M. Monday, August 30, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with WR Brother Jerry Snider officiating and W Brother Don Ripley serving as Chaplain. Serving as escorts were Everardo Acosta, Jr., Walter Dixon, Dan Deardorf, Joe Curtman, Nick Roth, Jack Merle, Scott Brown and Clarence Jones. Burial with military honors were held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 30, 2010 in the FLW State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain (CPT) Brian Palmer officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Eddie Acosta to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital of St. Louis and may be left at the funeral home.
