Frances Louise Meyer

Frances Louis (Curtis) Meyer, daughter of the late Frank and Ida Frances (Howland) Curtis, was born March 4, 1928 in Bigelow, Kansas where she grew up. Once Frances graduated from high school she made a decision to pursue a career in nursing and for the next four years attended nursing school in St. Louis, Missouri. It was during that time Frances met a military man and the two were married. It wasn’t long before the Lord blessed Frances and Burnell with four precious children, Barbara, Burnell, Frank and Robert. Frances was a devoted mother and found great joy in caring for her children and her home. The family was soon stationed in Japan for a time before returning to the states finally settling into Fort Leonard Wood. Once there, Frances became employed at the General Leonard Wood Army Hospital, St. Robert and worked there for nearly twenty years before finally ending up at the Richland Care Center where she worked approximately 12 years. Frances’s love and kindness for everyone were some of her greatest attributes. She found great pleasure when caring for or helping others and was a friend to all. In her spare time Frances enjoyed velvet art, puzzle books, playing solitaire, card games and dominos. Frances worked hard her entire life and even though her life was not always easy, it was her faith and love for God that gave her strength to accomplish whatever difficult situation came her way. Frances passed away the afternoon of Sunday, February 12, 2012, in the Richland Care Center, Richland, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 11 months and 7 days. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Frances leaves to cherish her memory her devoted children: Barbara Clark (Tommy) of Crocker, MO; Burnell Meyer of Evansville, IN; Robert and Frank Meyer both of Stoutland, MO; four step children: Darold, Ronny, Jenny and Lindy; several grandchildren, step grandchildren, great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and her loving and caring extended family at the Richland Care Center, other relatives and friends. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her very special companion Leonard Peterson, and four step children: Ray, Richard, Dean and Larry Peterson, daughter-in-law: Kara Meyer and son-in-law: Shorty Chamberlain. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2012 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Bro. Doug Jacobson officiating. Special music selections included “Wish You Were Here”, “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Just As I Am”. Serving as pallbearers were Kallie Chamberlain III, Leroy Myers, Darrell Peterson, Gary Smith, David Scheerer and Kenny Gordon. Honorary pallbearers were Kallie Chamberlain IV and Brian Smith. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Cemetery near Richland, Missouri.
