Garnett Neil Walters

Garnett “Neil” Walters was born September 28, 1963 and went to be with our Lord on May 25, 2022. He is survived by his parents: Garnett and Judith Walters of Branson West, MO; his wife: Kathy Walters and stepchildren, Andrew and Lindsey Shelton of Rolla, MO; daughter: Elizabeth Graham and husband Jeremy of Texas; brother: Kent Walters of Jefferson City, MO; sister: Jennifer (Walters) Ward and husband Tom of Peck, KS; nieces: Breana Ward of Independence, KS, and Brooklyn Ward of Peck, KS; aunts: Marilyn Owens of Springfield, MO and Alice Caldwell of Oak Grove, MO; cousins: Kathleen Martin and family of Fordland, MO and Christina Cochran and family of Kingsville, MO. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Mack and Hazel Waldron. He was a member of Rolla Church of the Nazarene where he served as a board member. He will also be remembered as driving the church van and picking up children on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings, as well as senior citizens to attend Gospel Singings occasionally. He sang Southern Gospel Music for 40+ years with several friends including the Singing Disciples, Kinsmen II and currently with the Covenant Quartet before his illness forced him to leave them. He loved the members of these quartets very much and was proud to have called them his “beloved” friends. He had many friends in all the churches in which he was privileged to sing and felt very blessed to have known them all as his special friends. A special recognition to Mike and Cindy Bassett, who stood with him all through his illness. He made many friends in his 32 years working at Missouri Science and Technology. He was very blessed to have his co-workers come to help him during his illness. Neil is now a new voice in the heavenly choir or playing his drums in heaven’s mountain band! We all will miss you, Neil! Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 in the Rolla Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Ron Sluder and Pastor Danny Bassett officiating. Brian Lester gave a wonderful eulogy recalling his memories of Neil. The songs “Long Black Train”, “Walk that Lonesome Road”, “Heaven’s Jubilee” and “I’ll Meet You in the Morning” were sung by a choir made up of several of Neil’s singing friends. Serving as escorts were Tim Davis, Guy Ross, Dewayne Fletcher, David Gray, Kenny Trout, and David Wright. Serving as honorary escorts were Rick Johns, Roger Walker, Lance McCormick, David Jacobs, the Singing Disciples, Kinsmen II/Heritage Boys, and Covenant Quartet. Burial followed in the Macedonia Cemetery near Rolla, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Neil Walters and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert or Rolla Church of the Nazarene.
