Gracie Mae Owens

Gracie Mae Owens, daughter of the late Mervin and Mattie (Paige) Owens, was born June 8, 1939 in Covington County, Mississippi. She spent all of her childhood in Covington County and in the early 1960’s moved to the Waynesville / St. Robert area. Gracie was united in marriage to Lewis Trotter, Sr. and they were blessed with three sons: Lewis, Jr., Lee and Tony. When Gracie moved to the Waynesville area, she began working with the Fort Leonard Wood Food Services Division and worked there as a cook until her retirement in 1997. Gracie was a very active person. She loved to go fishing every opportunity she could. She also enjoyed cooking and was known for her great dishes she would prepare. She would also cook a big meal for everyone and would invite all kinds of people to her home. She was the most hospitable person and would open her home to all who wanted to come. She knew no strangers, judged no one and was a very vital part of the community. She also enjoyed selling Avon, but mostly visiting with those that she would sell to. As a young girl, Gracie made a profession of faith and was active in the Baptist faith throughout her life. Gracie passed away Saturday, July 28, 2012 in her home having attained the age of 73 years, 1 month and 20 days. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Gracie will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by her three sons: Lewis Trotter, Jr. (Georgie) of Newburg, MO, Lee Trotter and Tony Trotter, both of Buckhorn, MO; seven siblings: Ervin Owens (Mattie) and Allean Eppose (Tom) , both of Sandusky, OH, Helen Kitchens (Prentiss) of Jackson, MS and Marvin Owens (Hazel), Earl Owens (Ethel Mae), Mayelean Pickering and Elizabeth Magee (L.C.), all of Mt. Olive, MS; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Gracie was preceded in death by four sisters: Gertha Mae, Mattie Mae, Thelma and Ruth; and one brother: MC. Services were held at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves and Rev. L.C. Magee officiating. The song “Amazing Grace” was played. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Gracie Mae Owens and may be left at the funeral home
