Ira James Gipson

Ira James Gipson, son of Jimmy Ray Gipson, Sr. and Marsha Lynn (McCall) Gipson, was born September 30, 1980 in Belleville, Illinois. As a young boy, he attended school and graduated from Alton High School. While growing up, Ira loved playing basketball, baseball, and football. He found every opportunity he could to play his favorite sports. For most of his working years, Ira worked as an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed traveling the country and seeing all that it had to offer. In his spare time, Ira loved hunting, fishing, and working on vehicles. Most importantly, he loved his family, especially his three children, Ira Jr., Bella, and Justice. He enjoyed spending time with them when he was home and missed them while he was on the road. Ira passed away Saturday, January 7, 2023 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 42 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Ira leaves to cherish his memory, his children: Ira Gipson, Jr., Bella Gipson, and Justice Gipson; father: Jimmy Gipson, Sr.; sisters: Sharon McCall, Dayona McCall, and April Gipson; brother: Jimmy Gipson, Jr.; sister-in-law: Jennifer Gipson; girlfriend and mother of his children: Ashley Dickerson; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Ira was preceded in death by his mother: Marsha McCall; grandparents: Ira McCall, Sr. and Marion McCall and Raymond and Deloris Gipson; and two aunts: Sharon Barnett and Betty Simpson. Even though he is gone from our sight, Ira’s free spirit and love for his family will live on in our hearts forever. Celebration of Life services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023 in the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, IL. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2023 in the First Baptist Church of Collinsville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ira Gipson and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
