James W. Baker

James W. Baker, son of the late Foster Fred and Myrtice (Whitehead) Baker, was born January 24, 1935 in Barrow County, Georgia. James grew up and graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Georgia and also took professional courses of training at Athens Technical College and the University of Georgia in his later years. In 1954, James entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country faithfully until his honorable discharge in 1956. He had attained the rank of Corporal. On April 30, 1960, James was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Walker at Mars Hill Baptist Church of Watkinsville, Georgia. They shared over 52 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: James Mitchell, Jenanne and Amy. James was a hardworking man and took great pride in taking care of his family. He worked for Eli Witt for a time before beginning employment with a wire and cable company in Watkinsville where he spent the next 36 years. In his spare time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing and all kinds of sports. He liked to read, listen to music and traveling. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, attending the activities of his children and grandchildren and taking road trips with Linda. James passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2013 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri having attained the age of 78 years and 19 days. James leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Baker of the home; three children: James Mitchell Baker and wife Alex, Jenanne White and husband Garry and Amy Justice and husband William; seven grandchildren: Morgan and Walker White, Dylan Baker, Tasha Bryant, and Kelsey, Alyssa and Gracie Justice; one sister: Ruby Cartee; sister and brother in law: Vicenta and Rony Theroux; cousin: Glenda Eades; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters: Johnnie Shedd and Doris Martin; and one granddaughter: Tiffany Justice. The family held a private celebration of life service on February 16, 2013 on Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri with Army Chaplain, Jim McNeely officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
