Jewell Manes

Hermena “Jewell” Manes passed from this life into the loving arms of her Lord the morning of Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 12:20 a.m., at the Lake Regional Health Care System, Osage Beach, Missouri, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 9 days. Jewell was born November 17, 1930, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She was the only child born to the union of the late Herman Tyler and Jesse (Shepherd) Tyler. Jewell grew up in Pocahontas and was a 1947 graduate of Pocahontas High School. She attended Southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas so she could become a teacher later fulfilling her dream as a much loved substitute teacher at Stoutland for several years. Jewell was united in marriage with Jerry Stephen Manes on October 9, 1957, in Hernando, Mississippi. Together they shared nearly 54 years of marriage until his passing on July 20, 2010 and were blessed with six daughters: Rita, Lizabeth, Jerra, Julia, Margaret and Sarah. Jewell was not only a homemaker but was a helpmate to Jerry as they professionally trained Tennessee Walking Horses for 53 years. They also raised turkeys for several years. She enjoyed cooking and gardening. As a young girl, Jewell accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized in First Baptist Church of Pocahontas. Later on in life she became a member of the First Baptist Church of Richland. She and Jerry were members of HAWHA, SWHA, a charter member of WHTA. Jewell was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all, with a smile that could warm the heart. She will be sadly missed by all those who’s lives she had touched. She leaves to cherish her memory, six children: Rita Schubel (Gene), Louisburg, KS, Lizabeth Carlson (Terry), Cleveland, MS, Jerra Ann Williams (Larry), Lee’s Summit, Julia van Zyverden (Nelson), Niangua, Margaret Hickman (Wade), Stoutland and Sarah Manes, Niangua, MO; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. In addition to her parents, her beloved husband, Jerry, preceded Jewell in death. A memorial service was held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 29, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of Richland with Pastor Bob Lilly officiating. Steve Belshe, a long time friend of the family shared fond memories. The congregational sang an old beloved hymn “Amazing Grace”. Arrangements were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland, Missouri.
