John Dale Carroll

John Dale Carroll, son of Dolpha True “Buck” Carroll, Jr. and the late Barbara Lucille (Osborne) Carroll, was born September 7, 1957 in Columbus, Ohio. As a young boy, John grew up in Springfield, Missouri and graduated from Parkview High School with the Class of 1975. He furthered his education at Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield. On December 30, 1978, John was united in marriage to Penny Sue Hartzell in Springfield, Missouri. They shared over 42 years of marriage and were blessed with two children: Jennifer Denise and Michael David Carroll. John was hardworking and took great pride in providing for his family. He worked as a systems analyst / operations manager for Dairy Farmers of America (formerly known as MidAm). In his spare time, John enjoyed raising cows, cultivating his land, and working on cars and machinery. He also spent time cultivating relationships with people and his family. He was a quiet man, with simple tastes and did not seek attention, but he loved large and had a desire to learn. John had made an important decision in his life and had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He was a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield for the past several years. John went home to be with his Lord Thursday, March 25, 2021 in his home having attained the age of 63 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Penny Sue Carroll of the home; his father: Buck Carroll (LaVerne) of Richland, MO; two children: Jennifer Denise Carroll of Florissant, MO and Michael David Carroll of Niangua, MO; one sister: Jean Sampsel (Jon) of Valparaiso, IN; one brother: Doug Carroll (Lisa) of Smithville, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Even though he is gone from our sight, John’s hardworking, generous spirit, and bigger than life love for others will live on in our hearts forever. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2021 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Dr. John Birchett officiating. The congregation sang “The Old Rugged Cross”. Serving as escorts were Myron Hartzell, Bill Tout, Denny McGonegle, Kelly Quinn, Casey Quinn, Matt Hartzell, Weston Hartzell, Tyler Hartzell, Kenny Hughes, and Harold Hartzell. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John Carroll to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and may be left at the funeral home.
