CW4 (Ret) John Roy Masters

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of John “Roy” Masters, 55, on July 25, 2025, in Dunstable, Massachusetts. John Roy was a loving father and son. He was born March 26th, 1970, in Farmington, Missouri and grew up in Centerville, Missouri. Between his Junior & Senior year of high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves. He would finish his high school education in 1988 and furthered his education at State Tech, formerly Linn Tech for aviation maintenance. Post graduation, John Roy transitioned to the Missouri National Guard and would serve in Desert Storm with the 1267th Medical Company. After returning home, he attended Warrant Officer Candidate School in Fort Rucker, Alabama. In 1992, he returned home to Jefferson City, Missouri, to become a UH-1 Iroquois Huey pilot for the National Guard. In 2001, he transitioned to the UH-60 Blackhawk and later returned to the Middle East flying Blackhawk helicopters in Afghanistan and Iraq, when called upon. He retired after obtaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 after 27 years of service. During this time, John Roy also became a civilian Medevac Pilot in St. Robert, Missouri, which helped so many people needing medical care quickly. After retirement, John Roy contracted for the US government in Afghanistan and worked for Thermo Fisher Scientific until his passing. More importantly Dad, as he was known by his two sons Tyler and Trenton, will be fondly remembered. Roy passed on pleasant memories with his children. Roy enjoyed playing tennis, going for runs, and having movie nights with his kids. The lesson he instilled into his children was to “remember to have fun and not take life so seriously,” a lesson that his children have never forgotten. If he could wish for one thing, it would be to spend even more time with them. John Roy Masters was a man who lived his life for his children and his country. He is survived by his partner, Ryan Magro, his two sons, Tyler & Trenton Masters, his parents, Jean & Roy Masters, his two siblings, Gina Loyd and Timothy Masters, and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on August 22, 2025, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
