John Robert Odom

John Robert Odom, son of the late Paul and Wilma (Massey) Odom, was born December 16, 1939 in Lebanon, Missouri. He went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, December 18, 2012 having attained the age of 73 years and 1 day. John grew up in Lebanon and graduated from Lebanon High School. On November 15, 1978, John was united in marriage to Patricia Elaine Jeffries in Richland, Missouri. They shared over 34 years of marriage together and five children: Robert Bryan, Robert Ogle, Jean Waters, LaDeenia Henry, Jeffrey Odom and Laura Smith. John spent over 40 years an over the road truck driver, driving for many companies and also for himself. He was currently employed at Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville as the head custodian. John made a profession of faith and was currently a member of Westside Baptist Church. He was very involved at the church and especially enjoyed talking to the children at the preschool. They all referred to him as “Mr. John”. In his spare time, John enjoyed being outside; whether it was gardening, fishing, or landscaping. He was also a very good cook and also very talented when it came to woodworking. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. John will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pat Odom of Richland, MO; six children: Robert Bryan (Paula) of Buffalo, MO, Robert Ogle of Richland, MO, Jean Waters (Larry) of Bennett Springs, MO, LaDeenia Henry of Kaiser, MO, Laura Smith (Robert) of Richland, MO and Carrie Gan of Richland, MO; two siblings: Mary Agan of Lebanon, MO and Thomas Odom (Marsha) of Hallsville, MO; seven grandchildren: Sarah Odom, Brian Keith, Amber Brandt, Katy Moyers, Danielle Hobbs, Halie Smith and Karen Mashburn; six great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one son: Jeffrey Odom and one sister: Lelia Ruble. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 in the Hufft Cemetery of Eldridge, Missouri with Rev. Lindell Shelden officiating. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in memory of John Odom to Camp Barnabas, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Hufft Cemetery Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
