John Leland Michael

John Leland Michael, son of William Thomas Michael and Nellie Louise (Lathrom) Stoll, was born May 30, 1959 in Cabool, Missouri. As a young boy, John attended Laquey Elementary School and then graduated from Waynesville High School in 1980. After graduating from high school, John enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country from January of 1980 until his honorable discharge in April 1988. He had attained the rank of MS2 and received several awards. Some of which included the Navy Achievement Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Battle "E" Ribbon and the Good Conduct Award (1st Award). After moving back to the Laquey area, John began working for the Ozark News Company of Springfield, Missouri on September 25, 1989. He delivered magazines and other printed material and was employed there for almost 20 years. In his spare time, John enjoyed being outdoors while fishing, hunting or working in his garden. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and loved going to the games with his brother David. Most imporatntly, he treasured those times that he spent with his family and friends. John was a member of the Buckhorn Baptist Church and began attending Idumea Baptist Church with his mother. John passed away the morning of Wednesday, May 27, 2009 in his residence at the age of 49 years, 11 months and 27 days. John will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by three brothers: David Michael of Springfield, Mo, Nicholas Michael of Rocky Mount, MO and Tommy Robert Michael and his wife Rosie of Springfield, MO; one sister: Marjorie Louise "Sue" Burch and her husband Jim of Springfield, MO; uncle and aunt: Norman and Marjorie Stoll of Buckhorn, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John was preceded in death by his father: William Thomas Michael (1968), mother: Nellie Louise Stoll (2005) and one brother: William James Michael. Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, May 29, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. The songs "Amazing Grace", "In the Garden" and "I Can Only Imagine" were played. Serving as escorts were Cris Quaey, Lane Poe, Jim Glasscock, David Shooteen, Bill Gurley and Mike Kelly. Burial with military honors followed in the Idumea Cemetery of Laquey, Missouri. Military honors were provided by the Missouri Honors Team of Rolla, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of John Michael to the Junior Diabetes Missouri Chapter and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory.
