Josephine Mae Thornsberry

Josephine Mae Thornsberry, daughter of the late Virgil Noel and Edna Josephine (McEntarfer) Hays, was born September 10, 1914 in Geneseo, Kansas where she grew up and attended a country school. At the age of 27, Josephine was united in marriage to Tom Thornsberry on August 12, 1942 in Hutchinson, Kansas. They shared 33 years of marriage together before Tom preceded her in death on May 18, 1975. Tom and Josephine were blessed with one daughter, Clara. For the majority of her working years, Josephine was able to be a stay at home mom and wife. She took great pride in taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors tending to her many flowers and vegetables, and raising chickens. She loved taking care of baby animals. She liked to sew and was a very good cook. She enjoyed getting her family and friends together and cooking them a big meal. Most importantly, she cherished those times that she could spend with her family and friends, especially the grandchildren. Josephine passed away Wednesday morning, June 9, 2010 in the Osage Beach Health Care Facility of Osage Beach, Missouri at the age of 95 years, 8 months and 29 days. Josephine will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by one daughter: Clara (Bob) Cochran of Brumley, MO; 3 Grandchildren: Ronnie (Jennifer) Cochran, Russell (Tina) Cochran and Robin (Kenda) Humphrey; 6 Great-grandchildren: Austin Stark, Samantha Cochran, Rachel Cochran, Rylee Cochran, Kenzie Humphrey and Danny Humphrey; one special cousin: Boyd (Rita) Swick and several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by her step-mother: Bertha; and three brothers: AJ, Orin Lynn and Larkin Millard Hays. Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 11, 2010 in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Rev. Bill Claiborn officiating. Music selections included “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden”. Serving as escorts were Ronnie Cochran, Jerry Thornsberry, Russell Cochran, Terry Thornsberry, Kenda Humphrey and Chuck Smith. Serving as honorary escorts were Ralph Hamilton, Harold Tipton, Morris Hamilton, Tim Tipton, Carl Johnson, Boyd Swick and Byron Miller. Burial followed in the Elm Grove Cemetery near Richland, Missouri in Camden County. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
