Kyung Soon Swenson

Kyung Soon (Judy) Swenson, daughter of the late Ghi Beng Kim and Doo Nae Knon, was born November 21, 1936, in Japan. She grew up and attended school in Korea. On October 8, 1958, Judy was united in marriage to Ronald Manford Swenson in Seoul, Korea. They shared over 55 years of marriage together and were blessed with four children: Yung, Michael, Melvin, and Bill. After moving to the United States, Judy earned her United States citizenship on June 20, 1967. She was a hardworking woman. While living in North Carolina, she worked in a sewing factory, and while stationed at Fort Leonard Wood and in Germany, she worked as a waitress. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was a lifetime member of The American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 331. In her spare time, Judy loved to fish and always enjoyed going on camping trips in their motor home. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Judy was 77 years old when she passed away on Monday, December 9th, 2013, at Sunset Village of the Ozarks in St. Robert, Missouri, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Judy leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband Ronald Swenson of Waynesville, MO; four children: Yung Hwa (Wayne) Gallipeau of Sheboygan, WI, Michael (Sharon) Swenson of St. Robert, MO, Melvin (Sharon) Swenson of Richland, MO and Bill (Janie) Swenson of Philadelphia, PA; six grandchildren: Michael (Jessica), Nicole, Christopher, Devon (Melanie), Lindsay, and Shawna; seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Zachary, Noah, Riley, Haylie, Aria, and Cylar; other relatives and friends. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Yung Hwa, Michael, and Jacob Gallipeau sang “Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone” and “Crown Him – Majesty”. Serving as escorts were Karl Duncan, Jerry Mitchell, Steve Page, Bill Debo, Nathon Martin and Bradley Brookshire. Burial followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Kyung Soon Swenson to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.
