Lela June Basham

Lela June Basham, daughter of the late John Lilburn and Polly Ann (Gann) Gan, was born June 3, 1933 in Bloodland, Missouri. She grew up in the Bloodland area and graduated from Pleasant Grove School. On December 3, 1953, June was united in marriage to the love of her life, Clarence Daymon “Curly” Basham. They shared over 59 years of marriage together and were blessed with two children: Danny Joe and Debra June. June was a hardworking woman and took great pride in providing for her family. For a time she was the manager at the Oasis Truck Stop Restaurant. She then began working as a cook for the Laquey School District and spent 13 years there. She enjoyed cooking for the children of the school district. After leaving the school district, she started working for Ham Auto Vending which had a contract on Fort Leonard Wood for the snack bars and she was the manager over those areas. In her spare time, June enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching television, traveling and family get-togethers. The things June liked to do more than anything was going to the casino, card playing and talking on the phone (gossiping). Most importantly, she treasured those times spent with her family and friends. In her later years, June made a very important decision in her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized. It brought great joy to her when her daughter was recently baptized. June was carried home by the angels on Sunday, January 27, 2013 in her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She had attained the age of 79 years, 7 months and 24 days. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew and loved her. June leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Curly Basham of the home; two children: Danny Joe Basham (Pearl) of Waynesville and Debra June Ogle (Charles Thompson) of Waynesville; three siblings: John Gan (June) and Norman Gan (Karen) both of Richland, MO and Anna Lee Nesbitt of Palmyra, TN; nine grandchildren: Tonya Millar, Shelly Brothers, Cristina Toney, Angie Rein, Misty Chemloski, Elizabeth Black, Stephanie Brown, April Brown and Lynn Patterson; sixteen great grandchildren: Chelsea and Chance Rhodenizer, Derrick, Bo and Ross Brothers, Drake Rein, Gunner Millar, Jordan, Lindsay and Drew Chemloski, Zachary and Alayna Black, Aidan and Elissa Thomson, Jase Nickles and Kyler Simmons; other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by one sister: Fronia May Gann; and one brother: Bobby Gene Gann. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Rev. Larry Atkins officiating. Songs included were “Holes in the Floor of Heaven” by Steve Warner, “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill and “Serenaded by Angels” by Becky Lercher. Escorts were Gunner Millar, Chance Rhodenizer, Drake Rein, Bo Brothers, Derek Brothers, Zachery Black and Drew Chelmoski. Honorary Escorts were John Gan, Norman Gan, David Brothers and Charles Thompson. Burial followed in the Buckhorn Cemetery, Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
