Lila Irene Chambers

Lila Irene Chambers, daughter of the late Howard Benjamin Huff and Veta Ellen (Billington) Huff, was born July 17, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa. At the age of one, Lila and her family moved to the Texas County, Missouri area where she grew up. She attended school in Plato, Missouri and graduated from high school there. She then furthered her education at Bible College. On October 13, 1956, Lila was united in marriage to a young man by the name of Claude Eugene Chambers in Success, Missouri. They shared over 57 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Teresa, Steven, Rusty, Paul, and Jeff. Lila was a hardworking woman and took great pride in helping to provide for her family. She was a civil service employee on Fort Leonard Wood where she worked as a seamstress/master fitter. In her spare time, Lila enjoyed quilting and even did quilting for other people. She loved kids and over the years, she basically raised every kid in the Big Piney area. In her younger years, she was involved with the Lions Club, a quilting club, and taught several Bible studies. One of the most important things to Lila was her family. She loved them dearly, teaching them to love God and have a strong faith in the Lord. She treasured all the time that they could spend together. Early in her life, Lila made a profession of faith. Her strong faith in the Lord kept her grounded throughout her life, helping her through some of the lowest points of her life and some of the most joyous times in her life. Lila entered her heavenly home on Friday, June 27, 2025, in her home in Newburg, having attained the age of 87 years. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her five children: Teresa Smith (Jack) of Jefferson City, MO, Steven Chambers (Renee) of Beulah, MO, Rusty Chambers of Newburg, MO, Paul Chambers (Loretta) of Red Bay, AL, and Jeff Chambers (Christina) of Lake Ozark, MO; thirteen grandchildren: Casey, Kelly, Shayna, Chad, Amanda, Alcia, David, Jacob, Brittany, Jeremy, Austin, Kyla, and Josh; thirty-two great grandchildren; three sisters: Mary Roberts (Jerry) of Lake Ozark, MO, Betty Rogers (Mike) of Oklahoma City, OK, and Lanette Jensen (Greg) of Houston, MO; one brother: Larry Huff (Debbie) of Success, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Lila was preceded in death by her husband: Claude Chambers in 2014; two grandsons: Willis Smith and Joseph Chambers; and three siblings: Julie May, James Huff, and Patricia White. Even though she is gone from our sight, Lila’s strong faith in the Lord and love for her family will live on in our hearts forever. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025 in the Northwest Texas County Lions Club, located on Highway 17 North in Roby, Missouri. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
