Linda Marie Schmitz

Linda Marie Schmitz, daughter of the late George Perry Sparks and Lillian (Warham) Sparks, was born on October 30, 1949. Due to her father’s service in the United States Air Force, Linda experienced a unique upbringing, moving frequently as her family was transferred to various duty stations. From 1984 to 1989, Linda lived in Germany before the family returned to the United States. After her father’s retirement, they initially settled in Lebanon, Missouri for a few years and later moved to the Waynesville/St. Robert area. Linda was united in marriage to George Schmitz, with whom she shared several meaningful years until his passing. After George’s death, Linda found companionship and happiness again with James Mayfield. Together, Linda and James created many cherished memories. Throughout her working years, Linda dedicated herself as an educator. She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly sewing. She also found joy in square dancing and playing Bingo. Linda was an avid animal lover and cared for several beloved pets over the years. She loved to visit her grandchildren every time that she was able. Linda passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Lebanon Nursing and Rehab in Lebanon, Missouri, having reached the age of 76 years. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her. Linda is survived by her children: Dawn Merrill (Kenneth) of St. Louis, MO; Lilly Massie of Dixon, MO; Eddie Mayfield II of Waynesville, MO; and Hollie Shaughnessy (Michael) of Dixon, MO. She is also remembered by her bonus children: Brenda Gray (Mike) of Waynesville, MO; George Schmitz, Jr. (Sandy) of Waynesville, MO; and Jennifer Robertson (Danny) of Laquey, MO. Linda leaves behind nine grandchildren, eight bonus grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and three bonus great-grandchildren, as well as a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. In addition to her parents and husband, Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Mitzi Sparks. Even though she is gone from our sight, Linda’s spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2026, in Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Danny Graves officiating. The songs "I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me and "I'll Fly Away" by Alan Jackson were played. Serving as escorts were family and friends with burial following in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial Contributions in memory of Linda Schmitz may be made, and contributions may be left at Memorial Chapel.
