Liza Mae (Gibson) Reed

Liza Mae (Gibson) Reed, daughter of the late Arthur Gibson, Sr. and Sisretta (Wilson) Gibson, was born May 8, 1930 in Enterprise, Alabama where she grew up and attended school. As a young girl, Liza was a member of the Adams Street Church of Christ. As a young woman, Liza moved to Los Angeles, California and began working at the Blue Seal Linen Laundry. In 1989, Liza moved to Waynesville, Missouri. She became employed as a cook at the Mess Hall on Fort Leonard Wood and was there until her retirement in 1992. After moving to the Waynesville area, Liza became a member of the Church of Christ in St. Robert. She was a faithful and active member and was there every time the doors were open until her health did not permit her to do so. She loved her church and was always willing to help. In her spare time, Liza enjoyed playing Bingo and spending time with her many friends and family. Liza went home to be with her Lord the morning of Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in the Life Care Center of Waynesville at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 29 days. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her. Liza leaves to cherish her memory her sister-in-law: Pauline Gibson of St. Robert, MO; nieces and nephews: Deborah and Beverly Gibson and Cedric Gibson and his wife, Gloria, all of Alabama; their mother: Sarah Gibson of Alabama; nieces: Brenda Gibson and Pauline Davis and her husband Leroy all of St. Robert, MO; great-nieces: Brittany Gibson and her family and Brianna Howard and her family; her main man: Lance Larry (great-great nephew); her boss lady: Lauren Miles; dearest friends: Laura and Cornell Miles and their family; favorite young man: Daniel Duvall; loving housekeeper: Brenda Franks and her family; landlady: Carole Hill; several other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Liza was preceded in death by two brothers: Arthur and Lugene. Liza had climbed up the rough side of the mountain and was ready to be welcomed home. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Preacher Randy Duvall officiating. Members of the Church of Christ sang “Farther Along”, “Mansion Over the Hilltop” and “The Last Mile of the Way”. Serving as escorts were family and friends. Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Liza Reed to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Society or the Church of Christ of St. Robert and may be left at the funeral home.
