Lonnie Henry

Lonnie Ervin Henry passed away June 22, 2009 at Cox South Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 17 days. Lonnie was born April 5, 1941 in Richland, Missouri. He was one of fourteen children born to the union of the late Virgil Roy and Mae Bell (Brown) Henry. Lonnie grew up and attended school in Richland. As a young boy, Lonnie accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Richland. On April 25, 1961, in Buckhorn, Lonnie was united in marriage with Wanda Faye Decker, and to this union two daughters were born: Terri Lynn and Sherri Mae. Wanda preceded Lonnie in death on May 6, 2009. Lonnie did auto body work for most of his life, and retired from Wright’s Auto Body in Springfield. He was a member of the Queen City Van Club. Lonnie had a passion for music. He loved playing the guitar and singing, so he organized “Lonnie and the Country Strangers Band.” He also loved to fish, and was the master at the grill cooking for all of the sizeable family functions. Lonnie will be sadly missed by his two daughters: Terri Henry and Sherri Brown both of Springfield, MO; six brothers: Roy Henry (Shirley), Eddie Henry (Kathy), Leonard Henry (Sherrie Brumley), Jerry Henry, Terry Henry (Shanna) and David Henry (Deena) all of Richland, MO; three sisters: Katie Sanders (Donnie), Virginia Jefferies (Merrell) all of Richland, MO, and Gloria Holloway (Robert) of Lebanon, MO; four grandchildren: Amber Thompson of Bentonville, AR and Amanda Stark (Brad), Robbie Brown and Reed Arnold II all of Springfield, MO; five great grandchildren: Trenton, Dakota, Peyton, Chase and Mercedes; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, many friends and his faithful companions, his dogs, Ruddy and K.C. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, Wanda, Lonnie was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Ashley Brown; a sister: Pauline Henry and three brothers: Charles, Richard and John “Jake” Henry. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 27, 2009 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland with Rev. Scott Chastain officiating. Recorded music selections included “I’ll Fly Away”, “I Can Only Imagine”, “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, “If You Get There Before I Do” and “Trubidor”. Serving as escorts were Kent Watson, Keith Watson, Warren Decker, Donald Decker, Robbie Brown, Craig Miller, Brad Stark, Reed Arnold, Virgil Jefferies, James Jefferies, Steven Henry, Tracy Henry, Robert Brown, Sr., Rob Holloway, Russell Holloway, Mark Decker, Al Decker and Morris Decker. Burial followed in the Oaklawn cemetery of Richland, MO. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Richland.
