Margaret Christine Stacey

Margaret Christine Stacey, one of ten children of the late Albert Jackson Merrell and Lottie Christine (Varner) Poythress, was born June 21, 1944 in Newburg, Missouri. As a young girl, Maggie, as she was known by her family and friends, grew up in the Conway/Niangua area and attended school in Niangua. On June 1, 1971, Maggie was united in marriage to Lester L. Stacey. They shared over 27 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death on June 26, 1998. Maggie was a hardworking woman and took great pride in providing for her family. She worked for Blackstone Consulting for a time and also worked on Fort Leonard Wood as a cook with EDP where she retired after47 years of faithful service for which she was recognized. In her spare time, Maggie was a lifetime member of the Laquey VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and embroidery work and liked sharing it with her friends and family. Maggie was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and a NASCAR fan. She watched every game and race that she could. Maggie passed away Sunday, March 9, 2024, in Mercy Hospital in Lebanon, Missouri having attained the age of 79 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Maureen Nelson (Mike) of Lindsey, OK, Sandra McCarrie of Greenville, TX, James Jones of Laquey, MO, William Jones of Waynesville, MO, Micheal Jones (Tara) of Crocker, MO, and Larry Stacey of Richmond, MO; eight grandchildren, Donna Henson (Scott), Bradley McNutt (Margie), Amanda Grissom (Devin), Earl Crossland, Jr., Michael James Jones, Tristan Sterling, Logan Jones, and Noah Jones; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Lorie Cheek (George) of Cochran, GA; a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family members, relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Maggie was preceded in death by daughter: Christine Crossland; granddaughter: Cheryl Christine Crossland; and eight siblings: Annie Bunch, John Merrell, Rebecca Blake, William D. Merrell, Sr., Lester Merrell, Albert Merrell, Pansy Exendine, and Arthur Merrell. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Richard Breeden officiating. The songs “Seven Minutes in Heaven” by Reba McEntire, “How Great Thou Art” by Elvis Presley and “The Old Rugged Cross” by Alan Jackson were played. Serving as escorts were James Skidmore, Tommy Bowling, Mauro Skidmore, Ronnie Bowling, David Davis, and Andrew Sutton. Serving as honorary escort was John T. Conners. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Margaret Stacey and may be left at the funeral home.
