Mary Ruth Henson, daughter of John Alois and Zuba (Holtsman) Becker, was born January 29, 1934, near Richland, Missouri. The family’s farm on BB highway was nestled in the hills and hollers of Pulaski County where she grew up. Ruth, as she was known by, attended school at Oaklawn in Swedeborg, Missouri. At the age of fifteen, Ruth married Jack Alexander Henson and together they enjoyed over fifty-eight wonderful years together before his passing February 2, 2007. God blessed Jack and Ruth with three beautiful daughters, Lois Jean, Carolyn Sue and Mary Ann. Each child held a special place in their hearts. Ruth was totally devoted to the care of her home and family. Ruth also worked outside her home at various places down through the years; however, it was her position as cook for Richland’s Elementary school that brought her great joy; she loved all those children! In 1995 Ruth retired. She always carried the special memories that were made there in her heart and mind. In Ruth’s spare time she loved working in her garden. She was a fabulous cook, and known for her homemade pies, chicken and dumplings. In her younger days and when her health allowed, Ruth loved to go camping and fishing every year with her family; the times spent with them were precious to her. Ruth loved her family and was their rock. Ruth made a profession of faith in Christ at a young age, and at the time of her passing was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church. Ruth loved her church family; and enjoyed seeing them each Sunday, as they did her! Surrounded by her family, in the early morning hours of Monday, October 7, 2019, having attained the age of 85 years, 8 months and 9 days, Ruth took the hand of her Lord and went home, where a great reunion was about to take place in Heaven; the family who preceded her in death, were about to welcome Ruth home; they include her parents, John and Zuba, her husband Jack, two beloved daughters, Carolyn Sue Henson and Lois Jean Newell, seven brothers, John Jr., Harry, Ralph, Leroy, Robert, Cecil and Wayne Becker. Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory, one daughter, Mary Ann Henry (John) of Richland, MO; 4 grandchildren: Mike Newell (Cassie) of Lebanon, MO, Tammy Alexander (Nathan) of Lebanon, MO, Beth McDonald of Richland, MO, and Nathan Henry of Richland, MO; 5 great grandchildren, Shantelle Alexander of Buffalo, MO, Brandon Newell of Lebanon, MO, Dayton Alexander (Kayla) of Lebanon, MO, Natalie Alexander of Lebanon, MO, and Audrey McDonald of Richland, MO; one sister, Ethel Hargett Crocker, MO; her son-in-law, Charlie Newell of Lebanon, MO; a special nephew, C.J. Becker (Connie) of Richland, MO, and Josh Wonder of Richland, MO who was like a grandson to Ruth; as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and treasured friends. Ruth’s sweet smile, and her warm and loving ways will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her. A private family graveside service was held October 9, 2019, in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland with Pastor Tre` Shaw officiating. Ruth’s sister, Ethel Hargett shared a few words, as did other family members present. Family served as escorts. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
