Michael Eugene Melton

Michael Eugene Melton, son of the late Harold Eugene Melton and Lillian Marlene (George) Melton, was born January 14, 1954 in Waynesville, Missouri. As a young boy, Mike grew up in the Waynesville area and graduated from Waynesville High School with the Class of 1972. During high school, Mike played baseball and earned a baseball scholarship. He played baseball in Poteau, Oklahoma and then moved back home to Waynesville and went to work as a painter. Mike was a well-respected painter and moved to St. Louis where he worked for Marquand Interiors as a supervisor of 40 painters in the St. Louis region. He then came back home again and started his own painting company, “Melton Painting” which he operated until he became disabled. Mike was blessed with a son, Michael James, who was his pride and joy. He greatly enjoyed spending time with Michael and when the grandsons started coming along, Mike loved spending time with them as well. In his spare time, Mike loved being outdoors. You could find him either hunting or fishing. He enjoyed going to gun shows and gun shops and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He was a past member of the Waynesville/Ft. Wood Shrine Club and the Waynesville Masonic Lodge 375 AF & AM. Earlier in life, Mike accepted Christ into his heart at Westside Baptist Church in Waynesville where he became a member of. Mike passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022, in his home in Waynesville, Missouri having attained the age of 68 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Mike leaves to cherish his memory, his son: Michael James Melton of Spring Hill, FL; three grandsons: Davonte Melton of New Port Richey, FL, Jayce Melton, and Lukas Melton, both of Spring Hill, FL; a great-granddaughter: Amerah Melton; his sister: Tammy Howlett of Crocker, MO; his brother: Mark Melton of St. Peters, MO; two nephews: Jarod Howlett (Melissa) and Christopher Melton; two nieces: Jessica Shempert (Mike) and Kayla Melton; as well as a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one brother-in-law: Russ Howlett; and one nephew: Joseph Howlett. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, in Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/ St. Robert. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening, from 5-7 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Michael Melton, and may be left at Memorial Chapel.
