Mildred Marie Burnett

Mildred Marie Burnett age 93 was born January 18, 1917 to Joe and Minnie McKinnon Null. She was the youngest of 13 children. At the age of 16 she accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord. She lived her life representing and presenting him to all she met. She married James Hoyle Burnett October 7, 1933 and they had three daughters, Emma Higgins, Lela Akery and Eula Roam. She loved her family, loved cooking and having people in her home. When she was 82 she made a quilt for each member of her family. She and Jim always helped their family. If they needed money or a house this was provided. She worked as a nurses’ aide for many years at the Pulaski County Memorial Hospital. Over the years she received many compliments about the good care she gave her patients. On her 90th birthday she received a letter from a former patient’s daughter telling her how often he talked about the good care she gave him. At the age of 60 she took driver education and received her driver’s license. Jim bought her a new car. She enjoyed getting her friends and taking them to church and singings. When she suffered a stroke her granddaughter, Terri Akery Rivers, was faithful to take her to church and singings. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Burnett; her parents; brothers: Dave, Grant, Otha, Fred and baby Charles. Her sisters: Letha McKinnon, Nettie Doyle, Viola Jennings, Paige Toma, Gussie Dake, Mary Miller and Mable Booker. Also three son-in-laws: Bill Crossland, Don Akery and Ellis Higgins. Also grandson: Donnie Akery. Survivors include daughter Emma Higgins, Ridgeville, SC, Lela Akery, Eula Roam and her husband Jerry Roam of Waynesville, MO. Her grandchildren: Jim Higgins, Kathy Higgins, Gary Carmack, Terri Akery, Ron Akery, Joy Legan, Millie Marie Crossland and Tommy Roam. She also has 17 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren; friend and sister-in-law Melba Null and many wonderful nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. We mourn our loss. Her goodness and wisdom will remain in our wonderful memories of her. We rejoice she is pain free and in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Funeral services were held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, March 12, 2010 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Rev. Danny Graves and Rev. Bill Claiborn officiating. Soloist Becky Lercher sang “I’ll Fly Away”, “Unclouded Day” and also played “When the Saints Go Marching In”. Serving as escorts were relatives and friends. Burial followed in the Waynesville Memorial Park Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
