Mun Cha Smith

Mun Cha Smith, oldest of six children of Tae Hun Pak and Nan Hui Hyon, was born October 25, 1945 in Seoul, South Korea where she grew up and attended school. It was in Seoul that she met her husband U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Duncan A. Smith who was stationed there. They moved to Ft. Meade, Maryland and were married on August 29, 1973. In 1974, Mun Cha and Duncan were again transferred; this time they went to Wildflecken, Germany where they stayed until 1977 before coming back to the United States. They were transferred to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in 1978 and decided to remain in the area after her husband retired from the military. After moving to the Fort Leonard Wood area, Mun Cha began working at the post hospital in the service department. She retired there in 2006 after 26 years of faithful service. Mun Cha’s main responsibility was to her family and raising her two boys, William and Duncan Jr., whom she loved dearly. In her spare time, Mun Cha enjoyed drawing and was very good at it. The one thing that brought her true satisfaction was her faith. She was a member of the Korean Baptist Church of Waynesville and a Bible study group that met on a regular basis. She was willing to help any way that she could or where she was needed. To sum it up, church was her life. Mun Cha went home to be with her Lord Thursday, March 14, 2024 in the Phelps Health Hospital of Rolla, Missouri having attained the age of 78 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Mun Cha leaves to cherish her memory, her two sons: Lt. Col. (Ret) William T. Smith and his wife, Carrie, of Los Angeles, CA and Maj. (Ret) Duncan A. Smith, Jr. of Redondo Beach, CA and his beloved service K9, Duchess; her three younger sisters in Korea and several other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, Mun Cha was preceded in death by her husband, 1st Sgt. (Ret) Duncan A. Smith, Sr., one brother and one sister. Even though she is gone from our sight, Mun Cha’s faith and commitment to her family will live on in our hearts forever. Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Sunghwan Park officiating and Mun Cha’s son, Lt. Col. (ret) William T. Smith giving a beautiful eulogy. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery and serving as escorts were family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mun Cha Smith and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert.
