SGM Presley Wilson Rowlett

Presley Wilson Rowlett, son of the late Bill and Vestal (Presley) Rowlett, was born October 17, 1940 in Guy, Arkansas where he grew up and attended school. In 1959, Presley entered the United States Army and served his country faithfully until his retirement in 1989. He had attained the rank of Sergeant Major and earned several awards and commendations; some of which include: Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal-4, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-5, Army Good Conduct Medal-10, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon-1, Mechanic Badge, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. On December 29, 1961, Presley was united in marriage to the love of his life, Margot Weishaupt. They shared over 51 years of marriage together and seven children. In his spare time, Presley enjoyed watching and rooting for his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys. He also liked cars, reading and watching westerns, woodworking and working on small engines. Most importantly, he treasured the times that he spent with his family and friends, especially the grandchildren. Presley passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Missouri having attained the age of 72 years, 2 months and 23 days. Even though he is gone from our sight, his memory lives on in our hearts. Presley leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Margot Rowlett of the home; seven children: Bernd Weishaupt (Joyce) of Blairstown, NJ, Tommy G. Rowlett of the state of Virginia, Michael W. Rowlett (Mary Lee) of Maplewood, MO, Patrick W. Rowlett (Elisabeth) of Dallas, TX, Mark A. Rowlett (Ruth) of Lebanon, OH, Melissa Stallings (Cris) of Waynesville, MO and Melanie Rau (Judd) of Lebanon, MO; nine siblings: JoNell Burroughs, Vickie Burnette, Gale Orvis, Debbie Finley, Larry Rowlett, Charlotte Rowlett, Judy Rowlett, Linda Rowlett and Richard Harris; seventeen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Presley was preceded in death by three brothers: Graydon, Danny and Randy Rowlett and one sister: Sue Harris. Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, January 14, 2013 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Bernd Weishaupt officiating. The song “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” was sang by Rev. Weishaupt. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery – Fort Leonard Wood. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood.
