Richard Martin Johnson

Richard M. Johnson was born November 27, 1943 in Mason, Virginia to Francis Eileen and George Johnson. Richard enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 and served 20 years as a motor sergeant attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served in Vietnam from 1966 - 1967 and retired in November 1980. Richard continued serving his country as a civil service worker for fifteen years. On March 7, 1964, Richard was united in marriage to Mary “J-nett” Jones in Crailsheim, Germany. Richard’s life revolved around softball, bowling, woodworking, fishing, boating, camping and anything outdoors. He enjoyed the family life and his wife of 51+ years and his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed all of the sporting events, choir concerts, school activities, etc. He also loved all of his animals that he has had over the years including Buddy who is still “his son”. Richard passed away Monday, November 16, 2015 in his home in Waynesville, Missouri having attained the age of 71 years. He will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Mary J-nett of the home; two daughters: Tammy Keeling of Waynesville, MO and Nancy Sutton (Lee) of Waynesville, MO; two grandchildren: Dillon Keeling and Kelsey Lee Sutton; two brothers: Charlie Johnson (Shirley) of Ft. Smith, AR, and Eddie Johnson (Connie) of the state of Ohio; two sisters: Mary Bostic (Rodger) of Gallpolis, OH and Bonnie Johnson of Mason, WV; and a number of nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: James and Mike and one sister: Sheila. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Rev. Danny Graves officiating. Family friend, Tony Miller recalled his wonderful memories of Richard. The songs “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “Amazing Grace” were played. Serving as escorts were the United States Army. Burial with military honors followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Military honors were provided by the United States Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Richard Johnson to the Disabled American Veteran's and may be left at the funeral home.
