GySgt (Ret Ronald Eugene Slaughter

Ronald Eugene Slaughter, son of the late John Fred Slaughter and Edna Aura (DeLong) Slaughter, was born December 18, 1938, in Columbus, Ohio. At the age of five, Ronald became an orphan and lived in a boy’s home for his growing up years. He graduated from high school and immediately joined the United States Marine Corp. Ronald was very proud to be a Marine. He served his country faithfully until his retirement and had attained the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He transferred to reserve status and served for a total of 28 years. He was stationed at El Toro Marine Base in California and decided to remain there. On July 16, 1988, Ronald was united in marriage to Maria Lopez Aragon in Kauai, Hawaii. They shared over 36 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories. Ronald earned an Associate’s Degree in Anthropology during his time in the reserves and began working for Orange County, California as a park service ranger. He served in that capacity for 30 years and enjoyed his time spent with the park service. It was his love for nature that made him and Maria decide to relocate to Missouri to live in the country in 1994. While living in California, Ronald enjoyed attending Los Angeles Angel’s baseball games. He enjoyed riding horses, dining at Denny’s, everything Marines, but most importantly, he loved his family dearly. He loved spending time with them every time they were able. Ronald was a member of the Marine Corps League Auxiliary- Judge Advocate, Legal Sheild Manager-Nationwide Lawyers Group, and the Peruvian Horse Association. Ronald had made a profession of faith and in recent years began attending The River church in Waynesville. He loved going to church and being able to worship with his church family. Ronald entered his heavenly home on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, in his home in Dixon, Missouri having attained the age of 86 years. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Maria Slaughter of the home; six daughters: Betsy Stabo, Jennifer Slaughter, Linda Fuentes, Mary Oliva, Cynthia Duran, and Marcina DeHaro; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; several other relatives and friends. Even though he is gone from our sight, Ronald’s commitment to his family and country, and his strong faith will live on in our hearts forever. Graveside services with military honors were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2025 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery of Waynesville with Pastor Howie Malone officiating. Military honors were provided by the United States Marine Corp. Services were under the care and direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of GySgt (Ret) Ronald Slaughter and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
