Ruby C. Smith

Ruby Catherine Smith, daughter of the late Michael and Laura (VaNetta) Pollreisz was born April 11, 1938 in Richland, Missouri and departed this life Sunday, August 19, 2012 in her home having attained the age of 74 years. At the age of 6, Ruby and her family moved to Mitchell, South Dakota where she grew up and attended school. They moved back to Richland when Ruby was 16. Ruby began working at the International Shoe Company where she met the love of her life, Lloyd Edward Smith. They were united in marriage on October 29, 1955 in Camdenton, Missouri. They shared over 56 years of marriage together and were blessed with five children: Jim, Jeanne, Connie, Tammy and Kristy. Lloyd and Ruby moved to California for a short time and she worked in the canneries. They came back to Richland in 1963 and she began working for H.D. Lee Company until she retired in 1988. In her spare time, Ruby loved working in her gardens, sewing, quilting, traveling and going to the lake. Most importantly, she treasured those times she spent playing with the grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Ruby was a faithful member of the Beulah Baptist Church and was very active until her health started to decline. She was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Ruby will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. Though she is gone, she will remain in our hearts forever. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Lloyd Smith and two grandchildren, Robbie and Kimberlin Schmitt of the home; five children: Jim Smith (Mary Lyn) of Richland, Jeanne Richardson (Michael) of Richland, Connie Ellzey (Kevin) of Waynesville, MO, Tammy Dooley (Jim) of St. Robert, MO, and Kristy Taylor (Jamie) of Richland; eight siblings: Dorothy Grisham (Robert) of Richland, Tina Condon of Richland, Violet Rowden of Richland, Mary Schutt of Richland, Albert Pollreisz (Janet) of Richland, George Pollreisz (Carolyn) of Columbia, Patricia Picard (Gary) of Crocker, MO and Christine Thurin (Ralph) of Viroqua, WI; seventeen grandchildren: Kevin and Keri Smith, Amanda Arringrton, Tommie Murphy, Jessie Oursbourn, Christopher June, Stephanie Weathers, Alicia Chavez, Shayla Ellzey, Robbie and Kimberlin Schmitt, Toni Dooley, Josh Bunnell-Dooley, and Jacob, Kailey and Katie Taylor; fifteen great-grandchildren:; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by one grandson: Benjamin Allen June and three brothers: Mike, John and Joe Pollreisz. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in the Beulah Baptist Church of Richland with Pastor Clifton Hodges officiating. Chris and Missy Miller sang “I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy”, “Go Rest High on that Mountain” and “When We All Get To Heaven”. Serving as escorts were Buck Hooker, Dick Smith, Doug Scott, Francis Barnes, James Baranowski and William Longanecker. Serving as honorary escorts were Robbie Schmitt, Kevin Smith, Christopher Hune, Josh Bunnell-Dooley and Jacob Taylor. Burial followed in the Beulah Cemetery of Richland. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Ruby Smith and may be left at the funeral home.
