Shirley Jean (Ferguson) Roberson

Shirley Jean (Ferguson) Roberson, daughter of the late John Monroe Ferguson and Evelyn (Shelton) Ferguson, was born May 16, 1935, in Meta, Missouri. As a young girl, she grew up in Meta and Iberia before moving to Waynesville, Missouri where she attended school and graduated from Waynesville High School. While a student in high school, Shirley met a young boy by the name of Bobby Gene Roberson who attended Richland High School. They began dating and were united in marriage on January 3, 1953, in Waynesville, Missouri during Shirley’s senior year of high school. They shared over 54 years of marriage together and were blessed with three children: Don, Julie, and Mike. Shirley was a hardworking woman and took great pride in helping to provide for her family. She and Bobby owned and operated Dairy King, Bill’s Sporting Goods and Buckhorn Package until their health began to fail. Shirley also worked as a bookkeeper for Gene Bollinger for a time. In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed playing cards and going to casinos. Most importantly, she loved her family dearly and treasured spending time with them, especially the grandchildren. Shirley passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, in the Lake Regional Hospital of Osage Beach, Missouri having attained the age of 88 years. She will be sadly missed, but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son: Mike Roberson (Barbara) of Waynesville, MO; ten grandchildren: Michelle Pointer (Jim) of Las Vegas, NV, April Bassam (Eiman) of Fairfax Station, VA, Jamie Drury (Russ) of Jefferson City, MO, Tiffany Godwin (Sean Fry) of St. Robert, MO, Shawn Godwin (Sandy) of St. Robert, MO, Amanda Schrader (Adam) of Russellville, MO, Phillip Roberson (Serena) of Front Royal, VA, Melissa Sharp (Larry) of Crocker, MO, Jason Colyer of Waynesville, MO, and Caren Carlson (Jeff) of Chugiak, AK; several great and great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law: Connie Roberson of Richland, MO; two sisters: Lois Rearick of Waynesville, MO, and Geraldine “Dean” Wallace of the state of Arizona; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband: Bobby Roberson; her son: Don Roberson; her daughter: Julie Roberson; two sisters: Vivian Keeth and Wanda Nickels; and two brothers: John and Jim Ferguson. Even though she is gone from our sight, Shirley’s love of her family and contagious fun-loving spirit will live on in our hearts forever. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 29, 2024 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert with Pastor Richard Breeden officiating. The songs “Amazing Grace” by Alan Jackson, “Go Rest High on that Mountain” by Vince Gill, and “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” by Randy Travis were played. Serving as escorts were Quintin Nave, Bryan Steele, Russ Drury, Nick Nickels, Brendan Drury, and Mike Bergeron. Serving as honorary escorts were Phillip Roberson, Darrell Nickels, Adam Schrader, and Landan Drury. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley Roberson and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert.
