Sue Lee (Chalfant) Parker

Sue Lee (Chalfant) Parker, the only child of the late Clair and Meta (Laquey) Chalfant, was born May 1, 1934 at home in Richland, Missouri. Sue grew up in Richland and attended the Richland School System from 1st grade through graduation. She graduated from high school in three years. Shortly after graduation, Sue was united in marriage to Reid Goforth. They were blessed with one daughter, Susan Lynn. After ten years of marriage, Sue and Reid divorced. On October 4, 1963, Sue was united in marriage to Charles Preston Parker. They shared 45 years of marriage together and were blessed with one son, John Preston. Charles preceded Sue in death in 2008 and John preceded her in death in 2009. Sue was very involved in the Richland community. She loved Richland and spent the majority of her years here. She was the founding administrator for the Richland Care Center formerly known as the Tri County Nursing Home. She held this position for 25 years. She and Charles then owned and operated the Richland Café / Motel for a few years. After retiring, Sue and Charles moved to Dixon in 2003. At an early age, Sue made a very important decision in her life. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior. She has served him faithfully throughout her life. She was a very active member of the Richland First Baptist Church for many years and after moving to Dixon, she became a member of the Dixon First Baptist Church. Sue was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She went home to be with her Lord at 6:25 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2013 in the Richland Care Center after suffering a long illness. She had attained the age of 78 years. Even though she is gone from us, she is finally at peace and will be treasured in our hearts forever. Sue leaves to cherish her memory her daughter: Susan “Lynn” Smith (Glenn) of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren: Niki Smith (Peter Schloss) of Kansas City, MO, Courtney Smith-Nelson (Brian Nelson) of Springfield, MO, Joshua and Seth Parker (Sherry Parker) of Dixon, MO; two great grandchildren: Audrey & Peter Schloss of Kansas City, MO; and other relatives and friends including a special lifelong friend Ruby (Roberson) Melton. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2013, in the Memorial Chapel of Richland with Pastor Chuck Baker officiating. Soloist Ruby (Roberson) Melton sang “Amazing Grace.” Serving as escorts were family and friends. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery of Richland. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
