Sueko Hearn

Sueko Hearn, daughter of the late Yonekichi and Yone (Honda) Kishiwadatani, was born February 13, 1929 in Osaka, Japan where she grew up and attended school. On February 29, 1949, Sueko was united in marriage in a Japanese ceremony to George S. Hearn. On May 13, 1954, Sueko and George were married at the American Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. They shared over 60 years together and were blessed with four children: George, Betty, Joan and James. Sueko came to the United States in 1955 with George when he returned from his tour of duty following the Korean War. They moved to the Waynesville/St. Robert/Fort Leonard Wood area where they have lived since 1966. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1993. Sueko was mainly a homemaker and took great pride in taking care of her family, but she was a very giving person. Her passion was teaching other foreign born wives English as a second language. She began as a student in 1967 in the chaplain sponsored Laubach English School on Fort Leonard Wood and later served as secretary. She was then promoted to Director of the school. To say that she influenced a number of people would be an understatement. In her spare time, Sueko enjoyed working with her hands; whether it was sewing, crocheting or doing crafts. She also loved to work out in her flower gardens and was especially proud of her tulips. She also enjoyed reading. In 1961, Sueko accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She and George were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Waynesville. She would help out any way she could and was always eager and willing to help. Sueko went home to be with her Lord Thursday, April 16, 2009 in the Sunset Village of the Ozarks of St. Robert, Missouri at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 3 days. Sueko leaves to cherish her memory her husband: George S. Hearn of the home; four children: George Hearn and his wife Marie of Tamarac, FL, Betty Ann Trono and her husband Rick of Point Reyes Station, CA, Joan Lewis and her husband Dean of Panama City, FL and James Hearn and his wife Valerie of Margate, FL; 8 grandchildren: Andrea, Steven, Rocky, Kenny, Samantha, Gary, Kegan and Peri; 8 great grandchildren: Gavin, Gracie, Gage, Berek, Bridger, Garrett, Hannah and Kyleigh; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 in the First Baptist Church of Waynesville with Rev. Dr. Dennis Crowder officiating. Sueko’s daughters, Joan and Betty, both recalled their wonderful memories of their mother. The song “Walk by Faith” by Jeremy Camp was played and Soloist Becky Lercher sang “I Can Only Imagine” and “Where We’ll Never Grow Old”. Serving as escorts were Jim Hackworth, Ron Cooley, John Sutton, Kegan Lewis, Joe Mendez and Kenny Lewis. Burial followed in the Sunset Memorial Estates Cemetery of Waynesville. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Sueko Hearn to the First Baptist Church of Waynesville and may be left at Memorial Chapels and Crematory.
