Thelma Humphrey

Thelma Irene Humphrey was born April 12, 1920 in Pulaski County, Missouri. She was one of five daughters born to the union of the late Charles Elvin and Nettie Belle (Tanner) Hill. Thelma was called to her heavenly home at 1:43 p.m., Wednesday, April 14, 2010, at Christian Health Care South, Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of 90 years and 2 days. On March 19, 1938 in Pulaski County, Thelma was united in marriage with Willis Freeman Humphrey, and to this union, four children were born: Frieda, Wanda, Glenda and Gary. Thelma worked for many years and retired from Pulaski County Hospital as an OB nurse. She helped deliver many babies in Pulaski County, including several of her own grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Happy Nana” by them. Thelma was a woman of great faith in her Lord Jesus Christ, and a long time member of Idumea Baptist Church in Laquey. She enjoyed reading her Bible and going to gospel singing’s, gardening, cooking, fishing, sewing, and going to stock car racing, watching Wheel of Fortune, tending her chickens and most of all spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren. Thelma is survived by three children: Pastor Gary Humphrey (Peggy), and Glenda Ogle (Larry) all of Richland, and Wanda Patrick (Robert) of Neosho; one sister: Orlena Mae “Aunt Nean” York of Richland; eleven grandchildren: Teresa, Tammy, Mike, Dena, Linda, Jimmy, Kathy, Donna, Tina, Kasandra and Regenia; twenty-three great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Thelma was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter: Fredia Gibson; a granddaughter: Juanita Kay Humphrey; three sisters: Shirley Murray, Lela York and Emma Cordelia “Midge” Emery and a son-in-law: Gene Gibson. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 17,2010 at Memorial Chapel with Bro. Danny Hill and Bro. Danny Graves officiating. Special song selections included "Victory In Jesus" and "I Claim The Blood" by the New Life Quartet. Stacy Green sang "I Can Only Imagine". Serving as escorts were Jimmy Prewett, Mmike Ogle, Jim Williams, Devin Ogle, Randall Helm, Willie Bales, Nick Ogle, Harlan Smith, Ian Mattheis, Billy Bales, Rick Mattheis, Dallas York and Lyndal York.
